We trusted him because he was a consummate professional, incorruptible and honest.

He wasn’t an ax grinder, he was a news reporter. He knew that his job was to find the truth and tell it, to the best of his ability.

People who oppose the Fairness Doctrine have no idea how blessed we were during the years when telling the truth was considered an honorable newsman’s duty.

None of the current-day spin-masters, propagandists and hate-spewers are worth one molecule of a Walter Cronkite.

Rest in peace, Uncle Walter. We’ll never forget you.”

Strange as it may seem, I remember a time when we did believe what our news people were telling us. Maybe we were naive but than we had the likes of Edward R. Morrow and Walter Cronkite. No drama, no entertaining, no needing to be in the spotlight. They went out and got the facts and then reported them with some very intelligent commentary and analysis. What we have to do is more like “Entertainment Tonight,” meant to entertain and throw up smokescreens.

If the clowns and carnival barkers polluting the airwaves today had any shame they would crawl back under the rock they came from…but they don’t.
