I found this to be a very interesting and informative Q & A.
I’d like to know what you think about it, Taylor.
I DO wonder why they are all rallying around Gilliland instead of letting the primary run it’s course. Who is Steve?

Excuse me, I meant Gillibrand.

That’s the way elite politics works in both parties. (It was the impetus in part behind Blue America and other groups.) Elite Dmes aren’t interested in small “d” democracy. Gillibrand was hand picked, also a big supporter of HRC.
Steve Israel. This article might be helpful:

They have discovered that there is no reason to allow primaries to run their course when the “Chosen” have chosen.
This is nothing new.
Donna Edwards is a rarity, though I hope we see more of it.
All politics, like sports, are fixed.
That’s all fine and dandy, but I thought that Gillibrand is a blue dog dem and so maybe at risk with liberal dems. But I do understand why she would run there since that is a pretty conservative area in NY. Sooo, I guess I just answered my own question.
Can’t stay too long this morning. It’s going to be 108 degrees today here in beautiful N. California. Need to get some things done outside this a.m. before it feels like hell.

up and up all the way
Gail Collins had wrote this piece for the NYT the other day. I’m not terribly happy with the idea that the powers that be have decided that there won’t be a primary.

Forgot to say hi all.
I believe in democracy with a small “d”. I believe there should be a primary in Pa. as well as in NY. I do understand the money concerns for the general elections, however.
It is all about preserving the status quo. Gillibrand is a known quantity and official Washington prefers a known quantity. An outside force is a greater risk. Remember Howard Dean had to fight Rahm Emanuel tooth and nail to realize his 50 state strategy. And did Dean get any thanks? Of course not. Rahm Emanuel did not even learn from 2006 and is repeating the same course of action he did back as leader of the DCC.
Fortunately Democrats are an unruly bunch and an insurgent candidate may emerge in New York.
Still I can’t pass up an opportunity to pull on Taylor’s cape. Gillibrand has the full support of our most sacred lady of the tastefully appointed pantsuit. Gillibrand is Hillary’s pick for the office. So tell me Taylor why is the former First Lady so keen on democracy in Iran but not so keen on it in the state of New York?
Howard Dean did not have a 50 state strategy – or perhaps, someone decided to implement something of a 49 state strategy.
Spincity,
Do you think HRC is the ONE who stopped the NY primary? I don’t think the evidence is there that HRC made a unilateral decision that Rahm to heel on HRC’s behalf.
