MSNBC Brewer Cuts Mike on Pro Palin Ziegler

Taylor makes some good points here. I would say the difference between Palin’s treatment and Hillary’s is that HRC was also smeared by the left in hideously sexist ways and Chelsea was smeared too. Remember that idiot Schuster saying the Clintons were pimping her out…disgusting.I really don’t care what side anyone is on IMHO it is ALWAYS wrong to bring people’s kids into things and I share the reaction people had to Letterman’s smear of Bristol. How low does he have to go for ratings? Never been a Letterman fan, I don’t appreciate humor than puts people down.

Humm…looks like Bob agrees with me about Letterman.

  2. Taylor Marsh says:

I have no intention of giving the right an inch on this one. Not. One. Inch.

Others… by all means can do what they want, but the up front issue for me is the hypocrisy on the right.

    Shuster got punished. Non issue.

As for Bristol, Mrs. Palin dragged Bristol, in a picture of what was a shotgun wedding classic, into the fray, while pontificating about “family values,” Palin style. Mrs. Palin didn’t have to do this, but it was a choice to USE her daughter. It’s not Bristol’s fault, though she sure took to the limelight, that her mother wanted to make her a spectacle, which didn’t end after the election.

  3. Betsy says:

Taylor, you are so right on this one. I saw it and clapped when the mike was cut. I really like Contessa and she was right on today.
As far as Rush is concerned he is really a racist. He proved it again yesterday with racist remarks. And it doesn’t even bother him that people see him as racist and sexist. Not one Republican has called him out on his remarks about women (mainly democratic women because he loves Palin) and about Obama. And I mean his racist and sexist comments.
I personally believe the right is falling apart.

  4. Betsy says:

By the way Taylor, thank you for turning off the bold. :-)

  5. Taylor Marsh says:

Heya Betsy, you’re welcome. I completely missed it when I checked in last night. I guess too many hours will do that to you.

I know! I clapped too when Brewer cut him off. It was priceless.

  6. JoeCHI says:

Letterman and Brewer are in the wrong here.

Children should always be off limits, especially when they are 14 year old girls. Further, Letterman’s comments regarding Gov. Palin were in bad taste and reflect poorly on him.

Could you imagine if someone made a comment about Michelle looking like a slut? All hell would break loose, in addition to the charge of being racist.

All in all, another unfortunate showing for MSNBC, and a new low for Letterman.

  7. Taylor Marsh says:

I understand disagreeing with Letterman, that’s easy to see.

But what did Brewer do, except turn off the guy’s mike?

  8. Scott Hopkins says:

Dave only said that she had the LOOK of a “slutty flight attendant”, not that she actually was a slutty anything.

    Big diff.

Personally I think its both borderline offensive AND funny. But whether every joke hits the mark or not, its that very “edge” where comedy gold can often be struck. It’s what Dave has always done.

  9. Helen S says:

Ms Marsh, I was one who use to read your blog on a daily basis during the election and admired your support of Hillary.
When you chose to support Obama it was fine with me because we are all support to vote for whom ever we wish. I chose NOT to vote for Obama and left the Democratic Party after 40 years.. Since then I can say I REALLY think I did the right thing. The more I read you blog and other liberal blogs the more disgusted I have become.
People who are super critical of the right wing (of which I am NOT one) have shown that they are awful people. I am reading comments where say they see nothing wrong with Letterman making sexual jokes about a 14 year old girl. As far as I am concerned any 62 year old man (who himself had his own child out of wed lock when he was was “old as dirt”) I find him to be perverted to the point that I would NEVER leave my 14 year old in a room alone WITH HIM. He as extremely mentally challanged and definately NOT FUNNY. I read fewer and fewer liberal blog and will very soon not read any of them at all.
Personally Obama gets too many passes, many people do not seem to pay attention to what is being said and done by this adminitration. It’s very sad.

Maybe someone should make a joke about Obama’s daughters being knocked up by A-Rod. Hmmmm – wonder what the reaction would be.

  11. GeoT says:

    Willow should be off limits.

Bristol and Sarah? Have at it.

Poo-Poo Pants Palin? DEFINITELY off limits.

    WHAT ?

If Taylor’s blog “disgusts” you, what would you do if you decide to visit huffpo where the commentators are more pro-Obama ?

Taylor writes MOSTLY about National Security and that should not offend anyone because most of the articles are in-dept ….

If you want some real disgusting stuff, try the hotairs and the new republics of the blogosphere …

First, you need to get your facts straight. Bristol Palin is not 14 years-old, so you’re beginning your outrage with fiction, which doesn’t help.

Second, Letterman can fight his own battles.

Third, in my post I went specifically at the right-wing for their selective sexist outrage. As I said, I have no intention of letting them off the hook on this one. Considering you profess to be a Clinton fan, I’m wondering why you think Letterman is more important than making the point I’m making.

I also find it appalling that you and others seem to believe Sarah Palin bears no responsibility for exhibiting her daughter at the GOP convention through the spectacle of a shotgun wedding, just so she could parade her “family values,” even if it was all a fraud.

If I was Bristol Palin I wouldn’t be speaking to my mother after that humiliation.

As for Pres. Obama getting “too many passes,” well, he doesn’t around here, that’s for sure. But when I do it I also back up my argument.

The commenters around here are very well informed, are willing to stand and fight, hold their representatives and senators to account and aren’t going to give up. Most will also take on Obama when he’s wrong, though there are some who won’t. They get taken to task by everyone. I’ll stand beside the people who comment around here any day.

I respect that’s what YOU believe. I believe Sarah Palin really did use her daughter as a political ploy so it’s ON her and her husband (who “speaks few words”)

When the Bush daughter started falling down drunk it got covered. IF the Obama daughters mess up I guarantee it will get covered.

  18. kris says:

I’m not talking about messing up GeoT. I could care less who messes up, we all do.

My point being that if Lettermans joke had been directed at the Obama daughters he would have gotten his ass handed to him on a platter. Oh well, CBS is a dying network anyway. Guess they have to do something to get ratings.

    ____

I think there has to be a precedent set first. Why would anyone make a joke about an Obama daughter getting pregnant by A-Rod? The Palin precedent was in place. It was a crude joke but is that a news bulletin about ANY network late-night show?… including FOX by the way.

How’d you like to be Bill Clinton?… when they run out of material they STILL throw in a good ole’ stand-by Slick Willy joke… I find THAT ridiculous.

  21. kris says:

I get what you’re saying now GeoT. Thanks for the clarification. I just think ALL children are off limits. They did not ask to be in the positions they are in by having famous parents. Joke away about the adults but not the kids.

    Helen S says:

Thank you Taylor. IMHO anyone that voted for Hillary in the primary and then voted for the Republican ticket is not rational at all. And I believe Helen S may well be a PUMA. But be that as it may, you were absolutely right in “calling her out”. Thanks again.

And everyone, I don’t agree with Letterman, but when Palin had her daughter out front she was asking for it. Why? Because the whole religious right movement has a “holier than thou” attitude. She should have left Bristol home. If any of you have read any interviews with Levi the bf, he said he really didn’t want to be at the convention but was more or less bamboozled into it.

And I agree with Taylor, I wouldn’t speak to my mother if she had put me through what Sarah did. But then again it seems that the whole family likes all the media attention they are getting.

  23. kris says:

    Betsy -

    Kids aren’t “asking for it”.

I actually agree with that. I feel protective of kids But still, Sarah Palin and her husband have continued to leave their own children exposed by airing their dirty laundry in public. I say their response from the beginning should have been a flat and firm “no comment” and “leave my children alone”

To hc4bo As I said I don’t often read Liberal blogs. I only checked in on this one today because it was a slow day for me. I probally will not be back here for a long time. I would rather walk through a garbage bin than to go to Huffington Post.

  26. kris says:

Ditto on Huffington Post Helen S.

  27. Helen S says:

    To Betsy
You are another reason I do not visit this site, Probably the main reason infact. NO I am Not a PUMA I am a BLACK NON-PARTISAN.

  28. Betsy says:

kris, Bristol may be a kid, and I actually meant her mother, should have been more explicit. And I agree with GeoT. They want all the publicity but don’t want anyone to say anything derogatory. I have absolutely no respect for the Palins. I think the Palin ADULTS should be called out on the fact that they paraded their children in front of the world.

  29. Betsy says:

Oh well Helen S. I just said what I thought. If you disagree that’s your problem, not mine. You came in here and threw insults around to all of us who are here. We DO go after Obama when he’s wrong, or we disagree with him, so for you to make such comments when you really don’t know us. Well, all I’ll say is you left yourself open to criticism.

I take Huffpo for what it is (mostly gossip), but sometimes there are some good posts there. Taylor’s site is a mix of Hillary supporters and Obama supporters, Helen, and it is usually pretty interesting and civil. We don’t all agree all the time so you just may want to stop by more often. I myself see some of your points; actually I can understand many points, here, although opposing. I’ve found most things in life aren’t strictly black or white but shades of gray and there’s a little truth in many of the points made here. :)

    Quick Question …

WHAT Exactly is the point of Palin DRAGGING her second daughter on stage with her EVERYWHERE she goes, even after the elections … ?

I mean, put her backstage or in the press booth somewhere …

No need to make the kids visible ….

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I can see, though, that Palin has unnecessarily opened herself and family (especially poor Bristol) up to commentary by shining the spotlight on them. As a parent, I wouldn’t have done that, especially to Bristol. I felt sorry for her, to tell you the truth. Having said that, Letterman and others should use better judgment, IMO. I remember the right making cruel jokes about Chelsea Clinton’s looks as a 12 year old and I thought it was in bad taste. I don’t condone the left doing it, either. I think the Palin kids appear to be nice kids. I like them from what I see and know about them. The parents are the ones who are responsible, IMO.

  37. djjl says:

I believe Letterman himself has said he may have gone too far. There are some who are mature enough intellectually to admit error and offense:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/11/letterman-responds-to-pal_n_214128.html

In a segment that lasted over 7 minutes, Letterman read the statements issued by Sarah and Todd Palin expressing their outrage about parts of his Top 10 list and then went through the offending jokes one-by-one to both apologize for and defend their content. “I’m telling you, I recognize that these are ugly. These are actually ugly. These are borderline…but again, in an act of desperation to get cheap laughs, which is what I’ve been doing for the last 30 years,” Letterman said.

Despite maintaining his usual tone of playful sarcasm as he discussed his flap with Palin, Letterman did respond seriously to the charge that he had made a rape joke about a 14-year-old girl: “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl,” he said. Letterman insisted the jokes were intended to be about Bristol, who is 18-years-old. “Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was OK for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.”‘
