says it all.
we passed a Proposition in CA to this effect and it is the only sane approach. Addiction is a real problem…but making criminals out of addicts is a bigger problem.

Well – as I’ve been saying for about 40 years now –
DU-UH !!!
“Illegal” drugs produces nothing but,
— RICH DEALERS
— DEAD COPS
— WASTED COURT ROOMS
— COSTLY FILLED PRISONS
and as I’ve been spouting for at least 30 years –
If all drugs became legal today, by this weekend the ‘average IQ in America’ would nearly double.
The ‘War on Drugs’ is a farce.
Don’t get me started, GeoT
Every single parent in this country needs to ask themselves –
Would you rather see your kids drinking alcohol ? or smoking grass.
Certainly, you’d prefer ‘neither’. That’s a given.
But with proper education (grass creates ‘apathy’ about your life – BE AWARE of this!) I would rather, a thousand times, my girls smoke pot and fall asleep on the couch, than drink alcohol and think you can leap tall buildings or allow a young man to do what he wished with her. Alcohol creates VIOLENT people – and drivers who speed. Grass creates mellow people and drivers who are so paranoid they get pulled over for going too s-l-o-w. Alcohol creates husbands who abuse and beat up on their wives. I dare you to find ONE CASE of this when a man smokes pot.
Ah me. I guess I’ll shut up now.

I had a cop tell me as a young teen (in 1972) to DRINK not smoke pot if I wanted to get high. “you’ll get in less trouble” he said.
I have a 22yo son and like you said I would prefer he was completely sober but him smoking a little pot worries me much less than if he was binge drinking on weekends. And btw I’ve told him more than once that exact same thing. And when he asks “what makes you think I smoke pot?” I’m honest and tell him “I did when I was young…and a little when I was not so young” so I have some background. Pretending that Mom and Dad were saints as teenager is a mistake as well… be honest with your kids.
Look, I come from the tune in, turn on, drop out generation. If you could smoke it, drink it, snort it or swallow it I did…and then some. LOTS of the folks I partyed with over the years ended up dead. But then lots of the folks I’ve known who DIDN’T party ended up dead. Bottom line…yer gonna end up dead.
If we are FREE, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness yadyadyada then if you WANT to change your perception of reality with chemicals of your chosing…the Gov. should mind it’s own buisness so long as you are doing it to yourself.
There should be free and immediate drug treatment/rehab for any and all who seek it. Crime will PLUMMIT!
If you want to grow it, smoke it whatever…for yourself no foul, no penalty. As far as the commerce of it that can all be worked out.
Time to grow up America.
The war on drugs has historically played out on the black community, with very high numbers jailed in lenghty incarcerations.
There was no war on wealthy white drug users.
This is a welcome and needed change.
Well its a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t go far enough, and nothing really changes. Past administrations have taken this approach only to flip back when the next administration comes to power. We need to legalize pot and tax it like alcohol, only then will we see crime drop.
