Lessons to be learned:
1. Switch party to win an election
2. Declare your independent streak
3. Root for the guy from your old party in a contested US Senate election
4. Oppose new party’s main issues
5. Do not be a loyal Democrat
6. The Senate doesn’t care if you are the first woman in your party’s entire history to win a primary and 18 million votes
7. Don’t expect any “special treatment” upon returning to Senate from historic candidacy.
* * Thank God she got the heck out of there.

He sure should have learned his lessons, lynette. But something else seems wrong with this picture. Specter knows the Senate. The developments since his announcement reveal he’s fighting the old game, not the new rules.
Coupled with the news about Ridge not running, I’d say Dems like Sestak (my choice, though I’m not a PA voter), stand a good chance (in the primary, let me add).
The Dems sure seem to bending over backwards for Specter. I hope Joe Sestak runs, although I hear he hasn’t exactly spoken up for the public option in health care reform. I don’t know if this is true or not.
That said, I really think this is pretty accurate, from someone who knows PA a lot better than me:

State wide, I just don’t have the insight that the reader above does. But his points seem dead on (or at least possible).
I am from Pa. and from EVERY one I know and talk to Specter better hope Sestak dosen’t choose to run against him in the primary. Politicol WHORE was one of the kinder referances to Specter tossed out in a conversation between five folks and myself.
My husband is from PA and we have extensive family who live there. This past weekend we had house guests- my husband’s college roommate and his wife – who still reside in Arlen Specter’s district.
They are be in complete agreement with the TPM poster. They like Specter – they are all life long Democrats.
