Tape smuggled out of the UAE shows a sheik horribly torturing a man.

What will the US response be? Do we even have a leg to stand on anymore?

    ___

this is a member of the ruling royal family I believe. (doing the torturing)

I haven’t watched the tape… how bad is it?

It’s pretty disgusting GeoT. The story is even more interesting. The guy was a grain dealer that stiffed the sheik.

It’s pretty grisly. Reading the description is enough. He was clearly enjoying it.

My point is the UAE is one of our stronger allies in the region, and do we have a moral leg to stand on to protest this?

I am waiting to see what the government response is.

We probably won’t justlen. The excuse will be that they settled their differences so —- oh well.

makes me wonder what the reaction to our “torture” is in countries where it is more common. Maybe they think we’re lightweights with the water boarding and the sleep deprivation… like “is that all you got?”

    From David Kurtz of TPM

“Confronted with the tape, the UAE had this peculiarly candid yet defiant response:

In a statement to ABC News, the UAE Ministry of the Interior said it had reviewed the tape and acknowledged the involvement of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, brother of the country’s crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed.

“The incidents depicted in the video tapes were not part of a pattern of behavior,” the Interior Ministry’s statement declared.

The Minister of the Interior is also one of Sheikh Issa’s brother.

The government statement said its review found “all rules, policies and procedures were followed correctly by the Police Department.

Hmmm, now where have we heard that before?

We are lightweights GeoT and I will leave it at that. We have been discussing this topic all week.
