palin’ around gain…
The meeting appears to underscore the Cuban government’s desire for improved relations with the United States under new President Barack Obama.

Thanks for the post on Cuba, GeoT. Here’s another article on it:

I suppose now the wingnuts are going to say we’re headed towards communism.
Interestingly enough, Sen. Menendez has been on of the main obstacles on this one.
Taylor, this is going to take some getting used to, LOL. But I still will stay and comment. And by the way, as I stated before I love your foreign policy threads because I know so little about it and you are a great teacher for this “ole broad”.
I’m almost certain some people won’t transition over to the new comment system so I just want to say thanks to everyone for the great sounding board. I don’t think anyone got “frozen out” but apparently some felt that way. I respect the people that post here and appreciate different points of view… the foul language I could do without. I think most of us would call each other friends, at least I hope so.
okay got that off my chest.
so… a “diary” has to be anchored by a news story? is that the deal?
can’t I just have my own thread called “Geo’s lounge”?

Yep, change is tough, I know. I hope you will also post items over here, Betsy. I will always participate.

The glass is ALWAYS half-full for me, GeoT. Not engaging in the substance of their beef was one issue I heard a lot about, though you obviously disagree. It’s not enough to say they’re wrong or hate Obama, etc., though I’m paraphrasing. Earnest supporters are *very* frustrated with him on his banking plan, which they have every right to be because it’s awful.
I’ve got a continuing beef with him, which I’ll post about later today, but it’s nothing new. I railed about it last year too. But that’s later.
As Betsy says, it’s going to take time to get used to this big change, maybe all year, but it’s worth it. But I need to hear more voices and more from people, especially with this being a sole proprietor site, which are in short supply these days.

No, anything goes. Like I said, it’s YOUR spot on TM.com.
That’s a great idea! Geo’s Lounge: –then put topic of discussion of the current post here–
I like it.
If people chime in, maybe I’ll get my techies to give regular “In the News” posters a spot. We’ll see what develops. I’m opened to anything.
Hey Taylor – I was one of those that said I would send you some buckos but then I lost my job. Now that I am employed again I will do so.
I don’t want to sound like a real idiot but I want to get this straight. Your threads will appear where they normally do AND over here for us to comment on?
Hey kris. Very kind of you, but more importantly, CONGRATULATIONS on the new employment.
You’re asking a great question.
No. The posts over here are completely unrelated to my posting, which will not have comments; though you can start a thread over here to comment on what I’ve posted if you like. I’ll join in the discussion when I’m able, absolutely, because I want to hear what you have to say.
It will be up to each “In the News” diarist to keep the thread they’ve started on topic… or not.

I agree the criticism needs to be heard. On the economy I’ve only said give it time, but if it’s “bad from the get go” that’s another opinion. And BTW the idea that his banking plan sucks is not a secret I’m reading it all over the place.
It will be up to each “In the News” diarist to keep the thread they’ve started on topic… or not.
Well there will be the largest challenge of all. Actually sounds like it will be fun.
Thanks for the answer and the congrats on the job. I am very pleased. After 4 months of unemployment I was getting pretty discouraged.
Lastly how do I get you some $$$?
Well, I’m upset also with the banking issue and I still worry about Geithner. My hubby still says “anyone who cheats on their taxes is a problem and not to be trusted.” When I brought up the fact that his cousin who died close to being a millionaire, didn’t file for four years, and tried to avoid paying taxes, he said “I was very vocal to him about that, and I told him I didn’t respect him when everyone else has to pay and he tries to hide.”
Yeah, as for each diarist keeping people on topic, no kidding!
There’s a banner right below the box ad that says “support independent journalism.” It takes you to PayPal. …and thanks so much.

Canadians vacation in Cuba like crazy. Our travel ban and sanctions are outdated, there is no need for the continued raw nerve with Cuba. IMO.

Hey GeoT -
I have a feeling you are going to be the de facto leader on the new TM adventure. In fact I am counting on you.
As one of the named contributors, I am glad to do so and will continue. I appreciate the foreign policy info, as TM.com is becoming part of my fopo blog fix.
I am still willing to give the President some time on the financial fix and have stopped reading sites that have gone around the bend on financial issues vis a vis Obama. The hyperbole is counter productive and many of these sites have become Red State-esque.
My industry is based on the CBMS market and I’ve very concerned about the upcoming commercial real estate crash. That is something I will definitely be paying attention to.
What a perfect focus for “GeoT’s Lounge.”
Can’t wait to see the culture, news or music video to go along with it!

you mean it ends??? thank God. My son’s college rent is $700/month and he works 20 hours a week… the math doesn’t work
It is way past time to change things with Cuba IMO….My grandparents honeymooned there can you imagine?
I’m fine with the changes Taylor wants to make….the only thing I don’t quite get is no comments on her postings. How is this going to get get more people involved? How will you get feedback from new readers or foreign policy readers? Strictly email? Just wondering?
I am looking forward to Geo’s Lounge
I guess you can put me on the list with doubters of the presidents economic team. I think there is incredible hanky panky going on…..make a stop over on Digby and read dday’s diary from yesterday about Morgan Stanley and their relationship with the possible coming bankruptcy of GM.
LOL, Geo, it never ends, or so it seems. Although, our oldest son has never asked for money. We supported our daughter while she was in school, but we promised that. We told her that when and if she decided to go to college we would support her. But now she makes her own living, and I told her she could support us now.
LL – That’s kind of my quesion too. I guess we comment on Taylor’s posts over here, but someone has to start a thread to do that. It sounds chaotic sort of.
Sorry – question.
I can’t comment on the new threads.

Thanks for posting. I noticed the comments are closed. I will be sure to comment (1) when they open up and (2) when I take a break from my CMBS supported job.
I’ll check back later to see what is happening.
I’m thinking we need a “failin’ Palin” thread.

that was my first thought LL, where do the dissenters go to dissent? Although if Taylor has a post you want to discuss you could link to it here (in the news) and start a discussion thread using her post as a starting point.

same with us Betsy, the older son has always been more self-reliant. The younger one is in his 3rd year of Junior College
but at least he has a part time job.
Republicans aren’t too thrilled with Palin. It seems they don’t even want her running for Pres in 12. We’ll see what happens. But I personally think that Obama would clean her clock.

I guess they’re a few bugs still to be worked out.
Well, ours has a job, but he has shared custody with the ex and even though she makes more than him, he pays the health insurance on the kids and 70% of any expenses that are incurred. We keep telling him he needs to go into court and force her to pay 50% of everything since she makes more and has a 2 income household.
Oh, and yes he’s the youngest also.

I don’t know if I’m going to get used to this type of commenting. I’ve been all over the place trying to keep up. I do wonder how Taylor is going to give us the opportunity to post on her threads. I guess we’ll have to start our own as suggested and use her thread as the jumping stone.
As to Cuba – it’s about time we changed the hard ass approach and opening up travel to the island.
SORRY, FOLKS, tech glitch. You can now post on the new diaries. Sorry about that.
