Okay, so it’s time to raise your glass to all things Tip O’Neill, but after Rick Warren I’m not feeling so ho-ho-ho post-partisan “agree to disagree.” So let’s just say cheers, remembering that we actually won this election and should act like we won it. I know, a shocking idea. I am feeling very festive, however. Wine is corked and ready.
But what a shocker when I saw just a bit of “Hardball” today, watching Kerry Kennedy stutter when Matthews asked her if Caroline Kennedy was pro choice. She could not answer the question. I’m telling you, it was a moment to remember. The woman’s running on and on about how great Caroline would be but didn’t even know if she was pro choice? The next question Matthews asked was on the 2nd amendment. Kerry Kennedy told him to read Caroline’s books. I kid you not. It was a single case of Vote for Caroline! She’s for something, but I cannot for the life of me remember what.
Next, Linda Hirshman has what could be a copy of Warren’s invocation. Consider me an unbeliever that this is the actual text. Here’s what HuffPost put before Linda’s post: (NOTE: Copies of what seemed to be a draft of an inaugural invocation by Pastor Rick Warren arrived in the fax machines of several prominent journalists this morning. This site does not vouch for the authenticity of the draft, although each of the statements does conform to material in Pastor Warren’s speeches, interviews, or on his websites.) This is one section of what Linda posted:
[..] Change the hearts of the new administration’s pro-choice advisors and supporters, including the Justices of the Supreme Court who stand here today with us: Holocaust denier Anthony Kennedy, holocaust denier Ruth Bader Ginzburg, holocaust denier David Souter, holocaust denier Stephen Breyer, and holocaust denier John Paul Stevens, who is about to swear in the Vice-President, in that abortion is a holocaust and the eighteen million or so women who have committed abortion in the thirty-five years since 1973 are thus no better than Nazis. ..
I cannot imagine in a million years Barack Obama approving this text. But I’m never surprised about any political development, especially those of a revolting nature. Still, seems absolutely laughable to me. (To add… psst… Remember, this is a cocktail hour post. Nothing is serious when you’re drinking.)
But now it’s time for cocktails, as well as a topic free for all. Cheers!
