Republicans Might Actually Show Up To Vote

That exhale you heard last night came collectively from Republicans. GOP pundits couldn’t contain their relief.
From equality to “exceeding expectations.” Boy, you betcha, that’s what I want in my vice president. Not really someone
who is deeply knowledgeable and ready on — dare I say it — day one. But someone
who shows up at a debate to “exceed expectations” because she didn’t
have yet another Katie Couric moment. Maybe I’m just one of those modern women
who thinks that ducking tough questions and hijacking the topic to your own
talking points meant to save yourself may bring relief, but when it’s nakedly
obvious you don’t know the issues, it’s just not all that impressive.
Roger Simon
delivers one of the most embarrassing columns ever crafted by a man simultaneously
drooling on himself. Catch this:
She smiled. She faced the camera. She was warm. She was human. Gosh and golly,
she even dropped a bunch of g’s.
Well, hell, Roger. If she can smile, face the camera, be warm, even human,
while dropping g’s, she’s obviously fundamentally capable of being next in line
to be leader of the free world.
My, how expectations since Palin stumbled through interviews with Katie Couric,
where she couldn’t even name newspapers she reads, have plummeted.
Palin basically stated early in the debate that this would be her strategy.
She said she wasn’t necessarily going to respond to the questions of the moderator
or charges from Biden, but instead, “I’m gonna talk right to the American
people.” Since this was billed as a debate, not a speech, her remark
came across as arrogant, and as an admission she would duck tough questions.
So much for coming a long way, baby. Now we’ve got a nominee for vice president
who is so clueless that when she can’t answer questions she won’t, while political
writers like Simon think that’s charming.
Dear, sweet Pat Buchanan was so relieved she didn’t blow it he couldn’t contain himself. Who can blame him after the cascade of interviews that revealed Palin as incoherent?
Just as embarrassing as Simon was Michelle
Malkin. “Biden is history!” “Sarah is presidential!”
Yeah, in that George W. Bush, “NUCULAR” kind of way.
Republicans were so desperate to keep the dam from breaking, that Sarah Palin
not imploding has them absolutely giddy. One Republican, via Dan Balz: “It
was the best 90 minutes this campaign has had in two weeks. . . . Whatever expectations
there were, she blew them away.”
Sarah Palin was supposed to fall off the stage at her vice presidential debate
Thursday evening.
When the expectations are that your candidate won’t fall on her face, according
to Roger Simon, well, it’s not that hard to pass the test.
There is, however, absolutely no doubt that Palin helped herself last night. However, not in the “she’s ready to lead the free world” way, which is needed when your running mate is 72, with a history of melanoma. She kept the entire Republican base from becoming demoralized about her candidacy and John McCain’s chances so that they don’t even bother to come out to vote. It might not be much, but at least it keeps McCain in the game.
