“…My campaign manager has stopped that. Has had nothing to do with it since. And I’ll be glad to have his record examined by anyone who wants to look at it.” – John McCain (9.21.08)

Oops.

Scandal watch begins, as the McCain camp issues a
verbose non-denial denial over The
New York Times
nailing McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, to Freddie Mac. You know, as they actually do their jobs.

Meanwhile, Davis pulls a Palin, skipping out on the press.

John McCain campaign manager Rick Davis–under the spotlight because of his
work for mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–is skipping a Wednesday
lunch with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

But everyone is all over this one.

Michael Isikoff has tagged Davis “Freddie’s
Friend.”
Crooks & Liars has video of Rachel Maddow’s interview with Isikoff.

Roll Call was all over
it yesterday.

Campaign
Money Watch
has called McCain out.

Campaign Money Watch, a nonpartisan campaign finance watchdog group, today
called on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) to answer crucial questions about the relationship
between his campaign manager Rick Davis and Freddie Mac, the mortgage giant
recently taken over by the government, and to demand that the campaign release
a comprehensive list of Davis’ consulting firm’s contracts.

Christy over at Firedoglake
is asking questions, as is John
Aravosis
. Down with Tyranny posts with art. Jesse Lee, online rapid response manager for the DNC, fills in the rest, while declaring today “Rick Davis Day.”

And as Ben
Smith
rightly notes, the McCain team may be whining, but no one’s denying.
