No Way Obama will Allow a Roll Call Vote

nails it:

… With the dust settled on the primary season, one thing is clear: Obama
is the presumed nominee thanks only to superdelegates. He never did win enough
pledged delegates to reach the winning number, falling about 350 votes short.
His expected victory stems from beating Clinton among superdelegates 463-257,
according to a tally on Real
Clear Politics
.

All the more reason for Obama to make sure that there is no roll call including
Clinton’s name on the ballot at the national convention — which a few die
hard fans of the former First Lady are still clamoring for.

Why highlight just how close the Democratic contest really was? And there
is certainly no gain for Obama in dwelling on how he had to depend on superdelegates
to win the nomination…

Yep, that about sums it up.

It dovetails into what was reported about Jill Iscol over the weekend. I do not know Ms. Iscol, but she isn’t the only hard core Hillary supporter and big money fundraiser who is unlikely to max out to Obama, from what I’m hearing. There is still much discontent among Hillary Democrats.

But face it, neither candidate could have won without superdelegates. However, anyone pushing that the primaries were unfair as a means to get a convention roll call vote to happen is being naive at best. Democratic voting isn’t perfect, but it’s the best there is. Obama is the presumptive nominee, because his team beat Clinton’s team, but not by much, with the ending having Hillary roaring to a close. So Obama won’t do anything to bring that win into question. And I’ve got news for you, neither would Hillary Clinton if the positions were reversed.

Opening up that fissure on the convention floor with a roll call vote is not the answer and people trumpeting that prospect are not serving Hillary or the Democratic Party. They are also making the situation worse among disaffected Hillary supporters on the grass roots level who are being given false hopes, while cable talk shows and media outlets exploit them and pump up these stories to help their own viewership, readership, or to help John McCain. Something the most earnest behind the convention floor fight push don’t want to do, even if they are affirmed in not voting for Senator Obama.

The truth is that the only thing that will really make many Hillary supporters happy, plus unify the party the most, is having Hillary on the ticket, though no one is holding their breath on that one.
