McCain Aide: Terrorism Attack ‘Big Advantage’

Senator Hillary Clinton comes back this week to help Obama win the general election, and it isn’t a moment too soon. McCain’s campaign is ripe for criticism, with wingnuts going off half cocked from Kristol to Charlie Black.

Clinton is a welcome sight for many of us. But even Obama supporters should be glad to see her readying to stand next to our nominee in Unity, New Hampshire. She packs a lot of power with her supporters, especially those who haven’t been suckered by McCain propaganda, or taken over by irrational anti Obama zealotry. For those of us who are honoring Hillary’s request to support him, as she is unequivocally, seeing her next to the nominee rallying everyone together is just what Democrats need. The common denominator is that we simply cannot afford four more years of Bush under McBush, McSame, add your own variation on the name.

To illustrate the point, this is the kind of guy John McCain thinks should be close to the next commander in chief. Charlie Black on terrorism:

“… The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an “unfortunate event,” says Black. “But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who’s ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us.” As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue,
another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. “Certainly it would be a big advantage to him,” says Black.

This stuff is disgraceful, though we know that the Republicans will use terrorism any time they can in an effort to scare voters. But Black offers the politics of fear with glee.

The Obama campaign responded:

“Barack Obama welcomes a debate about terrorism with John McCain, who has fully supported the Bush policies that have taken our eye off of al Qaeda, failed to bring Osama bin Laden to justice, and made us less safe. The fact that John McCain’s top advisor says that a terrorist attack on American soil would be a ‘big advantage’ for their political campaign is a complete disgrace, and is exactly the kind of politics that needs to change. Barack Obama will turn the page on these failed policies and this cynical and divisive brand of politics so that we can unite this nation around a common purpose to finish the fight against al Qaeda,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

So the video above of “I’m Still Here” seems like a great theme song to trumpet the return of Hillary Clinton, while reminding those Hillary haters that if they want to win in November they sure better get on board. Obama cannot win without her, without us. So let’s join in and get this done together.

Hillary’s also got a special “thank you” video addressed to all of you, with an online request to help her pay off her debt. I hope everyone who can will join in. She needs it. She deserves it. She’s earned it.

Oh, and as an aside, during the presser when McCain was trying mightily to back away from Black while simultaneously offering his aide an out, it was obvious that McCain had two small bandanges on the top of his head. Evidently, when getting out of a car in Canada he misjudged the roof. Offered without comment.
