Diverging Viewpoints Alert

BY TAYLOR MARSH

The editorial policy of TM.com is Democratic by cause, conviction and purpose.
This will continue to be the foundation of the work here.

As I’ve stated many times recently, if Clinton prevails
I will work hard for her to make sure she becomes the next president.
If not, I will work against John McCain’s candidacy, though that doesn’t
mean he will become “the evil one” around here. I will hold
up policy differences, which are vast, especially on foreign affairs, which is how I cast my
vote.

But things are changing as we head towards the final primary contests and also
look forward to the convention and the general election. No one can say the
last months haven’t changed things, especially among Democrats. It’s with this
in mind that new voices and differing opinions will on occasion be represented
through new guest posts.

The truth is that many Democrats feel alienated from their own Party, as well
as the movement they have worked so hard to put in power. Many Party leaders
have infuriated Hillary Clinton supporters, as the phenomenon of Hillary Democrats
manifests, revealing political activists loyal only to the woman who has waged
what has become arguably the toughest primary battle in modern political history.

Then there are those who have been alienated by the partisanship on both sides.
People sick of both Obama and Clinton camps because of the divisiveness that
has risen from the bruising battle. Select voices taking on both candidates
will soon be seen on this site. No doubt it will be bracing for some of you,
turn off others, but hopefully expand the universe of thought, at the very least.

Again, many of these voices will be people with whom I do not agree. But as
editor-in-chief of this spot on the web I’ve decided that it’s important to
represent the full spectrum of what’s playing out political during this historic
election season. So please keep in mind that each guest poster is speaking for him-
or herself only. If invited to guest post it’s because I believe the point of view is worth hearing, whether I agree with it or not. Also please keep in mind that people work very hard on their submissions, so it’s with this in
mind that I ask you to read and consider each post. The conversation in the
comments should be respectful of the guest poster’s efforts, so please take the time
to acknowledge them by reading what’s posted. Too often people commenting take off on what they want to talk about, even when it’s not an open thread, which is always specified. When it’s not, the conversation should revolve around the poster’s topic until it’s been exhausted. This is important.

As I’ve pledged to you all, I will do my best to have differing viewpoints represented here going forward. That will include some voices that likely infuriate you at times. But their opinion is no less valid than yours because you disagree. The guest voices on this blog will reflect the political realities we’re all experiencing.

But again, this blog is a Democratic blog and proud of it. This will not change
going forward, regardless of the faults of the leadership of the party to which I belong. Our foundational Democratic principles are worthy of the fight. It sure beats the hell out of the alternative.

Just a heads up on what’s about to unfold around here.

But for now, here’s an open thread.

Salute a veteran today. They’ve earned it.
