Rev. Wright’s Un-American Rants

People are missing this by a mile. Reverend Wright’s rantings and the disgusted reaction they bring out has little to do with race. It has to do with un-Americanism. That’s what is weighing Barack Obama down, though many elitist Democrats and their progressive compatriots are ignoring it.
“Not God bless America, God damn America.” – Rev. Jeremiah Wright
That’s not a racial issue, though it is a black and white issue. “US KKK of A” makes it worse. It’s black and white because your average American, you know, the non-elite Democrats that the elites judge from on high, don’t like anyone damning America, or blaming this country for 9/11. It goes against the grain and the patriotic DNA we blue collar folks have running through our bloodstream.
The storm clouds are rising above Obama’s campaign, even if it’s getting too late for Democrats to do anything about it, with Clinton’s options tough at this point, though not insurmountable. Maybe the worst won’t play out fully in the primary season, but come general election time Wright’s un-American rants will strike at the heart of the Democratic hopes to take the White House. He plays right into the GOP’s favorite anti Democratic theme: patriotism. Though the real threat for Senator Obama is one of judgment.
Listening to every major news program on the air, including the Fox “News”
boys and girls, one thing has become clear. The primary race on the Democratic
side has shifted. Reverend Wright has changed Senator Obama’s trajectory, with
Republicans finally waking up to the reality of what some of us have known for
a long time. Obama is an easier target in the general election.
Republicans see Wright
as a gift, but it’s not because of race. It’s because of the anti-American speech at its foundation.
… .. Now, with the emergence of the notorious video showing the Rev. Jeremiah
Wright damning the country, criticizing Israel, faulting U.S. policy for the
Sept. 11 attacks and generally lashing out against white America, GOP strategists
believe they’ve finally found an antidote to Obamamania. In their view, the inflammatory sermons by Obama’s pastor offer the
party a pathway to victory if Obama emerges as the Democratic nominee. Not
only will the video clips enable some elements of the party to define him
as unpatriotic, they will also serve as a powerful motivating force for the
conservative base.In fact, the video trove has convinced some that, after months of praying
for Hillary Clinton and the automatic enmity which she arouses, that they
may actually have easier prey. … ..
It remains to be seen if Obama can hold out or if Clinton will be able to change
the dynamic enough, with questions now surfacing about her opponent, to win
the nomination. But there are real issues for Obama at this point, including
the rumblings everyone is hearing, which Ambinder
wrote about yesterday.
Obama’s going to take another hit too, because he’s
the one stopping the Michigan revote, as well as the one in Florida, because he’s putting his nomination fears before counting the votes. Nobody’s going to give him a pass on it, though it’s the Democratic party who may pay in the end, with 25% of Floridian Dems, according to CNN, refusing to vote Democratic come November if they’re votes are not counted.
HILLARY CLINTON: “I think that would be real shame. I think that, you know, my
campaign has been very public in its support of a re-vote. We have said we
would support the people and government of Michigan in trying to do that,
which I think is exactly the right thing to do, so I would hope that some
last minute compromise would be worked out so that there can be a re-vote
and I think there should be a re-vote.”
On Lou Dobbs’ show yesterday, it was reported that one reason for Obama’s objections to a Michigan re-vote is that Republicans won’t be able to participate, however, it seems Obama still won.
But at the foundation of Obama’s problems is the un-American screeds of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. It will be a central attack against Obama throughout the general election, if he’s the nominee, with Wright likely to galvanize conservative voters who aren’t thrilled about McCain.
Or maybe this will all wash away and everyone will forget about the YouTubes, and Republicans won’t use Wright against Obama in the general election, with the American people ignoring it when they do.
