Democrats Pick up Former Speaker Hastert’s Seat

09 March 2008 1:01 am by Taylor Marsh

This is stunning. Physicist Bill Foster beats out James D. Oberweis in a special election to take over Hastert’s seat that will last until the end of his term, which brings yet another election in November. A solidly Republican district turns blue.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign
Committee, was quick to cast the race as a national barometer. Foster’s victory
is “a stunning rejection of the Bush administration, its Republican allies,
and presidential nominee John McCain,” he said.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) called the race “the
shot of change heard around the world.” … ..

Listen to the soundtrack
that’s perfect for this news
.

It’s good to be a Democrat.
