You’ve got to wonder if Drudge isn’t playing Democrats like a violin, which
is clearly been in evidence so far, with several bloggers in The Progressive
Village automatically taking Drudge’s word for it. See

In a conference call that ended a bit ago, Howard Wolfson was asked several
times, including by Andrea Mitchell, about the picture. When confronted with
Maggie Williams’s statement, he was asked why there wasn’t a clear denial. He
then said, “No.” Howard’s voice rose at one point, excoriating reporters
on the call, of which I was one though I didn’t do the knee jerk reaction others
found so easy to do, asking why everyone is believing Drudge. Wolfson then pivoted,
asking all of us on the call whether we had independent reporting proving anything different from what the Clinton camp has denied. “I’m not in a position
to ask 700 people to come and answer questions,” he continued.
I’ll tell you as plainly as I can, I don’t know who shopped the photo around
and neither does anyone else right now, so posts like this
and this are
just lazy and have no relationship to journalism. It’s exactly what the New
York Times did to John McCain that I found so objectionable. If you don’t
have the story and don’t know, don’t print it, especially when it’s inflammatory
and potentially devastating to somone’s credibility.
If I find evidence of anything different from what I know right now I’ll let
you know, regardless of where it lands.
