A Word About A Republican Rival

John McCain, he won South Carolina. Forgive me if I hope he wins the Republican
nomination. Certainly not because I agree with him on foreign policy.

I’m reminded of what George Soros said a while back during a conference call about his
book
. He said, and I’m paraphrasing here, that our democracy suffers when there
are not two strong political parties.

It reminds me of what I say every day. I’m an American first; a Democrat second.

I am moved by John McCain’s biography. This is regardless of the fact that
I think he’s wrong on Iraq and every other issue in between and beyond. But
as a matter of character I am impressed by his life’s story. I think of my uncle who flew planes in WWII (NOTE: changed to planes, because obviously back then “jets” didn’t apply), but ended up with “battle fatigue.” I think about the courage it takes to go through what John McCain experienced. Yes, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for brave veterans. In this great country
it makes me feel good that a politician like John McCain, who was thought finished, is getting a second look. Yes, I think
he’d be the toughest challenger. But I think for president only the best should
prevail to compete.

Then, of course, there’s Hillary’s win, which Obama is whining about. He lost, even by playing dirty. Get over it.

…Mrs. Clinton handily won Clark County, home to Las Vegas and its influential union blocs, by a 10 point margin with 98 percent of the precincts reporting. In the final week of the race, the endorsement from the 60,000-member culinary union injected controversy into the contest, prompting the lawsuit as well as allegations of intimidation.

… “They were bullying and threatening us to vote for Obama,” said Steve Gelt, who works in the coffee shop at the Flamingo and has been a member of the union for 12 years. “I like them all; I’m a Democrat. But that’s why I went for Hillary.” …

So, besides that, what’s up this morning? All things primary are on the table. What are you reading
this fine Sunday? I’ll check in a bit later on.
