New Hampshire Ch-ch-ch-ch… Changes updated

UPDATE II (8:12 eastern): CNN CALLS NEW HAMPSHIRE FOR JOHN McCAIN.

UPDATE (8:07 eastern): As I make my first swing of the cable channels, listening to comments with 12% of the vote in, which isn’t the end of the story by any means this is the concensus of the commentary, showing it’s clear that this isn’t what the traditional media anticipated: MEDIA STUNNED…. “Too close to call.” … … “No Obama blowout.” … Insert slackjawed bewilderment of the talking heads here.

Two words: Maggie Williams. Two more words: February 5th.

Via Ambinder:

EXIT POLLS: GOP: 3 in 10 GOP voters are independents (CORRECTED FIGURE)…many late deciders… McCain more electable than Romney…33% say economy is biggest issue followed by Iraq (22%) …. Democrats: 46% made up minds without last week.. 4 in 10 are independents…. HRC’s favorability: 73%; Obama’s: 84%; … 36% say economy is top issue….

Bill Clinton to major suorrgates on a conference call today: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I know it’s going to be a little closer than people expect. You’ve just got to keep your chin up and keep fighting.”

Expectations, baby. Everyone is expecting a blow out for Obama. If it’s not, a 5-7 point loss is a push for Clinton.

Republican attack on Obama in a nutshell, via CNN:

“He hasn’t any experience in foreign policy. Give me a break,” Voinovich said of his colleague from Illinois, who also serves on the Foreign Relations Committee.

Like it or not, whether Voinovich is just another GOP jackass or not, Obama will have to prove them wrong in the general with a very good argument. Grandiose rhetoric, even in the face of incredible emotional impact, will not be enough. Specifics will be required. Oh, and also remember that the Republicans will have no problem attacking Mr. Obama. Always good to keep general election reality in mind when viewing the Democratic primary that is quite a bit more, shall we say, delicate.
