New Iowa Poll Shows Clinton Pulling Away

24 December 2007 11:07 pm by Taylor Marsh

I know it’s Christmas Eve, but this isn’t exactly a minor development. That said, Iowa polling is hard to gage, but even so, this is stunning.

Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama among women 38% to 21%, which is unchanged
from a week ago (Clinton 36%, Obama 23% among women). Obama has lost ground
among men to John Edwards and Clinton. Among men, Clinton is at 28%, Edwards
is at 27%, Obama is at 16%, and Joe Biden is at 11%. A week ago, Obama was
at 27% among men, followed by 21% for Clinton and 19% for Edwards.

The new ARG poll shows Clinton leading at 34% (up from 29%), with Edwards at
20% (up from 18%), then Obama with 19% (down from 25%). Ten percent are still undecided.

The last show before the holidays with Chase Martyn, we talked about Clinton’s
campaigning around the state in the last days before the holidays. Chase said
he thought the Clinton camp had finally gotten it right and that her latest efforts, including
the Hill-o-copter, even as corny as it seemed, just might be working, especially
with all the surrogates she had fanning out in every county in the state. As for corny, in primary states, corny is often good. We laughed about my video when
she won the Des Moines Register endorsement
. He then asked me what I was going
to do if Clinton won Iowa. I actually didn’t know what to say to him. A Mike
Gravel type video, maybe, he suggested, with me just staring at the camera
saying nothing. No video is necessary if these ARG numbers hold up.

We’ll know
soon enough, now won’t we.
