Pro Choice Makes a Deal with Pro Life updated

Pat “God gave us what we deserved on 9/11″ Robertson has placed his hands on Rudy making a deal over the issue that has bedeviled the religious right for years. It illustrates just how much they hate John McCain, someone who has a solid pro life record going back decades. All that sucking up from McCain got him nothing.

The religious right as we have known it is finished. Done. Kaput. They now
stand for nothing but the convenience of finding a way to win, any way to win.

While Robertson has been heavily courted by a number of presidential candidates
— most notably Romney — in recent months, he said he decided to cast his
lot with Giuliani in order to counter a movement among some evangelicals to
vote for a third party candidate if the former New York City Mayor became
the Republican nominee.

“I thought it was important for me to make it clear that Rudy Giuliani
is more than acceptable to people of faith,” said Robertson. “Given
the fractured nature of the process, I thought it was time to solidify around
one candidate.”

He insisted that while some on the “fringe” of the social conservative
movement may see Giuliani as an unacceptable nominee, the “core know
better.” … ..

Rudy’s on a roll right now. If you saw Rudy’s
interview with Brian Williams last night on NBC
you’d see that he’s got
his patter down and knows what to say and is ready to lay all of his personal
foibles, including his serial marriages, his bad judgment on Bernie Kerick,
and everything else on the fact that he’s not perfect. That’s for sure.

In the wings you have Mitt Romney, whose commitment to family is undeniable,
whatever you say about his weak national security presence, which seems to be
more important to Pat Robertson. Then there’s the other issue. It seems very
clear that Robertson wasn’t able to give his nod to the Mormon, no matter Slick
Mitt’s squeaky clean life. Republicans have a litmus test on religion. There’s
just no other way to read this one. Robertson just revealed what it is, because
any way you cut it Rudy isn’t one of them. He’s pro choice. There’s no way that
squares with what the religious right has fought for these last 30 years. The
trouble is neither does Mitt, with no other candidate outside Rudy seen to have
the strength to win. Never mind it’s based on a lie.
