Webb Amendment Fails updated
![]() |
It went down 56-44. Democrats lost one vote, former secretary of the Navy, retiring Senator John Warner.
To expect troops to continue unending deployments is immoral. Mr. Bush couldn’t even finish his Guard duty. But there’s no question about it, though there never was for most of us. Mr. Bush and the Republicans own this war. I hope they choke on it.
It is a betrayal of trust to turn your back on our men and women in the military. The Republicans have left our troops in the middle of the desert to die for nothing, because Iraq is no longer America’s business. The U.S. military finished their job a long time ago.
Bush will be emboldened.
As for McCain’s falatious claim that the Webb Amendment was unconstitutional, McCain is positively senile, and the other wingnuts trying to float this nonsense are ignorant of the United States Constitution. Considering the Republicans are trying to turn this country into a military dictatorship, no one is surprised.
CONSTITUTION; Article I, Section 8, paragraphs 12-14:
To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;
To provide and maintain a Navy;
To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;
UPDATE: The Republicans’ toothless version of troop bill went down 55-45.
