Obama Concedes Iraq Debate to Bush updated
Excuse me for sounding petulant, but if you can’t wage a fight shut the hell
up. After yesterday’s
efforts, Obama comes up with this beauty?
Obama, on the second day of a trip to Iowa, conceded that Democrats who control
Congress lack the votes to cut off funding for the war or even to tie continued
funding to a timetable for withdrawing troops. … ..
It’s not
the first time he’s done this sort of thing either.
I bet you a million bucks I don’t have that Edwards will not concede tonight.
Hillary Clinton certainly didn’t concede anything this week when she directly
confronted Petraeus. She’s got the headlines and wingnut attacks to prove it.
Frankly, this is one thing that worries me about Barack Obama. In the middle
of a heated battle where soldiers are dying he concedes the debate to Bush even
though the majority of Americans do not back the president, the continued escalation,
or believe this war is worth it any longer. Barack doesn’t seem to get it.
Chris Dodd shows how it’s done.
UPDATE: I was out of the office when Markos posted Obama’s response to the AP article. Readers jg40 (and others) also note the update and the second article from Mike Glover that tries to backtrack on Obama’s behalf. Frankly, I’m going to be contrarian on this one, with reason. I think looking at Obama’s complete statement there is resignation. He sounds down, defeated, as well as using the same phrases of “it doesn’t look like were going to get that many votes” and “hoping,” etc. It doesn’t work for me. Leading isn’t conceding anything, in my opinion. It’s fighting all the way up until you go down. I also will say that the language reminds me of when he talked about “not playing chicken with the troops.” All of this worries me that Mr. Obama just didn’t understand the language duel in a political campaign. I think today’s long winding rambling is part of Obama’s problem, which his hometown paper has called him on as well: “He’s All Talk: At Iraq hearing, long-winded Obama barely manages to ask a question.” The corporate hack pack is anything but accurate, as I’ve proven on many occasions, but Obama’s meandering lack of clarity today doesn’t help. But my analysis isn’t as important as what you take away from it. You decide.
