Republicans Stand with Bush on Iraq updated

Break out the cots? We shall see, but the night is moving towards that direction.

What Senator Harry Reid and the Democratic senators are doing is courageous. They are standing up to a policy that continues to ruin this country’s reputation around the world, adds more numbers to the U.S. Armed Forces death toll, while allowing Al Qaeda to build beyond Iraq.

Meanwhile…

The Republicans obstruct. Object. Obstruct.

C-SPAN is streaming the Senate all nighter, as Republican toadies of Mr. Bush walk away from their responsibility to this nation and our troops, illustrating
their lack of leadership for all to see..

Think
Progress
is liveblogging the Republican spectacle.

9:32 PM: For the past few hours, Democratic Senators have taken the floor
to call for an up-or-down vote on the Levin-Reed Iraq redeployment bill. Providing
political cover for the Bush administration, one Republican Senator after
another has stood and voiced objection to moving forward on the legislation.

Watching this is really amazing. Republicans are once again walking in lock step with Mr. Bush, while our troops take the hit. While the Iraqi parliament prepares to take August off, as do Republican senators, as do Democrats, but at least they will leave with a clear conscience. While Republicans have no problem standing with Bush even as our troops prepare to take yet another hit for the Iraqi government.

Courage in the Capitol is lonely tonight, but without the Democrats courage would be nowhere in sight.

UPDATE IV: Senator Durbin’s call sheet. Staffers will be in tonight, so get on that phone.

UPDATE III: Joe Lieberman outright lies on Iraq, once again parroting Bush that Al Qaeda is the main enemy in Iraq. Outright lies on this one.

UPDATE II: Senator Chuck Hagel joins Democrats to support Reed-Levin, doing the right thing for this country and our troops.

UPDATE: Well, well, well, Mr. Lieberman must be nervous. He’s now gesticulating that 60 votes must be the order of the night. On top of that he’s talking about partisanship on a night where he paraded his puss on “Hannity & Colmes” chastising Democrats for standing up and fighting for what we believe. This guy is a real classic, the 19th century kind. … … .. … Oh lordy, now Joe is spelling words out, as in g-o-a-l, goal. It’s going to be a loooooong night.
