Rudy: Blame the Troops – Blame the Firefighters updated
Exposing Rudy Giuliani is tough
business. Especially when you have wingnuts more interested in saving their
candidate than supporting the betrayed firefighters of 9/11. One
wingnut is positively turning himself into a pretzel claiming “swiftboating!”
Talk about stretching the political imagination. To educate the people of
the party who invented the term not to mention the action, you are only swiftboating someone when you’re
offering facts that are not true. Harold Schaitberger isn’t the only
person in the video the International Association of Fire Fighters let fly recently.
He’s also not the guy in this photo, who the wingnuts evidently believe is a pawn of Schaitberger’s, which shows how little respect these people have for firefighters. It’s like the way they treat the troops. They want their heros silent, serving and sychophantic. But the truth is that these are real people, real
firefighters telling their truth about Rudy. Harold Schaitberger has
nothing to do with their stories.
But as with all efforts aimed at debunking wingnut fantasies, you have to understand
that these guys don’t care about the truth. They’re also ignoring that Rudy’s
main competitor wanted to hear what the firefighters had to say.
Likely Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson hit Rudy Giuliani’s
turf yesterday, talking with the city firefighters-union chief who’s going
all out to derail the former mayor’s 2008 candidacy.Thompson had breakfast with Uniformed Firefighters Association President
Steve Cassidy… ..
It’s not just the IAFF. There are a lot of firefighters out to make certain
people know the real Rudy, not the one conjured up out of whole cloth.
He’s got lots
of enemies. Even 9/11
families are among those involved in speaking out. Kristen Breitweiser did
that last fall. Did she support Kerry for president, yes, but if you read her
book you’ll see she has very critical words for the Massachusettes senator,
too. Are these 9/11 families “swiftboating” Mr. Giuliani? Hardly,
it’s about being incensed that Rudy is “capitalizing” on his 9/11 mystique that has little basis in reality.
So Rudy
damage control is in full
force, with Townhall
getting into it, evidently not understanding that Democrats have always
been courted by unions of all types and most well informed people know it.
Democrats actually help the middle class, instead of supporting golden parachute
CEOs. This is news? As I covered yesterday, Rudy even went on Sean Hannity’s
show whining about the injustice of it all. Yeah, having the truth come out
after all these years of worship is a bitch, I’m sure. Like finding out Rudy
ditched the Iraq Study Group because he was too busy making money. He likes
the glory, just not the hard work behind actually finding solutions for problems.
But Rudy’s done this before. It’s like when Rudy
blamed the troops and gave Mr. Bush cover for his incompetence in Iraq.
The men and women who actually do all the hard, dirty, dangerous work don’t mean anything to these guys.
