Rudy’s 9/11 Myth in Flames

Rudy’s 9/11 Myth in Flames updated

The alternate headline was When Firefighters Fight Back.

There’s real life reality; then there’s Rudy reality. There’s what happened
on 9/11 in front of the cameras and what the American people witnessed. Then
there’s what the
firefighters of New York
experienced. The differences are stark.

“Whenever I hear him talk I want to scream out to the world
and say, God, he’s so full of it.”
(from video above)

Sounds similar to what Kristen
Breitweiser
told me last fall during her book tour.

However, the lack of understanding of what was mounting went back years.

“They attacked us in ‘93…

… and yet eight and a half years later, New York firefighters,
the greatest fire department in the world, were using the same radios that
we knew didn’t work.”
(from video above)

The first attack on the World Trade Center goes largely ignored in this dialogue.
A Republican administration, Bush senior, years after the Marine barracks attack, to name
just one danger that played out, still clueless at the mounting dangers coming at us, leaving no warnings for the next president that we know. But then all those
years after ‘93 Rudy still hadn’t prepared and equipped the first responders. It’s reminiscent of Bush on al Qaeda, Iraq, as well as Katrina. Republicans may have the
slogans and the talking points, but they’re short on action, competence and
real leadership, which requires more than talk.

Rudy is nothing without his 9/11 armor. This is real trouble, not only for
the primaries, but it’s positively deadly for the general. The video is devastating. Now imagine the tv ad version played ad nauseam on screens across the country. Big time damage control doesn’t even come close to describing what’s required. It still might not be enough.

UPDATE: Rudy went running to wingnut radio and Sean Hannity to whine and moan about the mean firefighters eviscerating the Rudy 9/11 myth. Sean’s on late out here in the west, so I just got the special treat of listening to Rudy’s bellyaching, with Sean Hannity providing new talking points: blame the firefighters. It didn’t work. You could sense the Rudy flop sweat through the radio.
