It’s Called Contempt

It’s like the White House is daring Democrats to challenge their disrespect
and complete disregard for Congress, waiting for Democrats to actually act, while believing they won’t.
“If we do not enforce this subpoena, no one will ever have to come
before the House Judiciary Committee again.” – Judiciary
Chairman Jon Conyers
The abject refusal of the Bush administration to acknowledge the oversight
branch of government put in place by our Founders is remarkable, if not stunning.
This has got to stop and Democrats have to be the ones to do something besides
give good sound bites. Things like this move slowly and you can only act as
the wheel turns, but the people long ago lost patience with Congress. Democrats were put in charge to act, even if they can’t win every vote. The headlines need to reflect the continued slog, as Republicans continue to obstruct any progress.
Harriet Miers ignoring a subpoena is contemptuous of the congressional role in our democracy. Conyers should go straight after her. Showing up after a subpoena is issued from Congress is not optional.
