Iraq War Claims McCain

The “terrorists” and Al Qaeda have finally hit a target over here.
John McCain’s presidential ambitions have exploded with headlines that can only
be described as an obituary.
I’m mobile all week, so it’s really interesting to log on and see the cascading
headlines mount during the day . We’ve got the AP calling the political massacre
a
“shake up.” If McCain’s in the middle of a “shake up”
I sure as hell wouldn’t want them making my martini.
Dan
Baltz’s article has the headline Top McCain Aides Quit Struggling Campaign.
An angry McCain reportedly confronted Weaver and Nelson about the campaign’s
operations, particularly the amount of money that was being spent even when
it was clear funds were tight. The final confrontation, coming after McCain
returned from a visit to Iraq over the weekend, ultimately led to their departures,
according to sources.
Marc Ambinder got it right as far as I’m concerned calling the event a “decimation.”
Politico’s Jonathan Martin reports that Rick
Davis, who ran McCain’s 2000 campaign into a ditch, has taken over. If Davis
was responsible for McCain caving to Bush’s abject swiftboating of him in South
Carolina someone should just cut to the chase and start playing taps.
But this last ditch shuffling won’t do anything for John McCain’s presidential
ambitions. Iraq has already dealt him a political death blow. Oh sure, wingnuts
are going to say it was the immigration debate, but that came after a long slow
death march into the Iraq quagmire, which McCain just couldn’t resist and still continues to meet with Bush like ridiculous rhetoric.
Mr. McCain said that beginning to remove American troops from Iraq now would
have devastating consequences for the region. He implored lawmakers not to
give up on the military mission before it has had time to fully succeed.“The terrorists are in this war to win it,” Mr. McCain said.
“The question is, are we?”
Mr. Bush hasn’t learned a thing about Iraq or from the experience of what preemptive
war means when you go into a country to try to remake it with too few troops
and without a strategy on how to get out. It’s obvious that neither has John
McCain. It’s sad that it’s come to this, but when politicians are too ignorant
to understand the difference between a battle we can win and a civil war that
only the Iraqis can settle, we have to be grateful that his campaign has been
decimated and is on the mat. The last thing we need in the White House is another
arrogant, head strong, ignorant of the facts, head in the sand, stay the course,
support the military until they’re all dead or are hunkered down by insurgent
crossfire, coalition of the willing spilling, mad for war neocon, support Israel
before the United States, ostracize all Muslims and Arabs, ignore Pakistan’s
terror factory, oblivious of the Israeli’s suffering because of our policies, Iran baiting, Palestinian ignoring Republican taking resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
after Mr. Bush.
As Iraq goes, so now goes McCain’s presidential hopes. One down, eight or nine
wingnuts to go.
