Fox 'News' Slams Edwards Again

VIDEO: Bill-O and Miller Slam Edwards

This is getting just a tad bit obsessive. If Fox thinks this is the way to get the Democrats to do a debate on their channel then they're even more deranged than we know.

But this time Bill-O had some help. The new hit man for Fox is Dennis Miller, who
recently targeted Senator Harry Reid. Mind you, it's one thing to disagree strongly
on a major issue with someone. It's quite another to do a general attack with
no substance and all slime. Maybe after viewing the clip above Tim Russert will
get it. Or maybe E.J. Dionne can help him; no doubt he reads the Post.

Fox provided the new liberal critics with a target-rich environment. This,
after all, is the network that in January floated a false report that Obama
had been educated at a madrassa. The nicely staccato Fox report said of Obama's
alleged time in an Islamic school: “The first decade of his life, raised
by his Muslim father as a Muslim and was educated in a madrassa. . . . Financed
by Saudis, they teach this Wahhabism, which pretty much hates us. The big
question is, was that on the curriculum back then?” Talk about Innuendo
City. Fox's competition, notably CNN, went after the story and proved it untrue.
Obama, as he recounted in his own book, went to an Indonesian public school.

Tell me again: Why do Democrats have an obligation to participate in debates
on Fox?

I am an avid reader of conservative magazines such as National Review and
the Weekly Standard. But if these two publications teamed up to sponsor a
Democratic debate, would anyone accuse Edwards, Obama and Clinton of “blacklisting”
if the candidates said, “no, thanks”?

I admire Roger Ailes's genius in building Fox News. I wish liberals could
create a comparably powerful network. If Fox and such a network co-sponsored
debates, I'd love to watch the fireworks. In the meantime, Ailes should be
thankful to the conservative stalwarts who made his network a success and
not be disappointed if his political adversaries take their business elsewhere.

Saying
No to Fox News

As Steve Benen
notes this morning
, Russert's now joined the Alan Colmes in the if Democrats
can't take questions on Fox how can they handle Al Qaeda
crap.

Don't buy it and don't take the bait. Digby:

Furthermore, it's a waste of time. FOX is a partisan Republican network and the Democrats are trying to get Democratic primary votes (who do not and will not watch FOX for any reason.) They might as well be holding the debate in Dick Cheney's office. The vast, vast majority of Fox's audience are older, white, male right-wingers, hard core 28 percenters who would rather stick needles in their eyes than vote for a Democrat. …

Fox continues to slam our Democratic
candidates, as well as our leaders in the Congress, but most of the time it's
not directly on substance. It's cheap shot theatrical diatribes like Dennis
Miller is now offering regularly for his new wingnut peeps. After all, he's
now got a three-hour radio show he needs to keep afloat. Ah, if only I was a
right-wing radio host instead of a progressive. I might be on the air and out
of debt. It must be nice to have a posse to pimp your views, even if they're
just a throw back to Richard Melon Scaife and VRWC hit jobs of the 1990's. However, with the advent of Fox “News,” their attacks have a big time media platform.
