No Threat

Ninjas take four… or is it five?

Journalism today: Hitting JFK airport is “symbolism” that would be
as devastating as hitting “the man” again, if carried out successfully. That's
straight from MSNBC. Are they kidding? The headline above says it all, but on
the cable networks blather.

Read this:

Sources said the plot involved putting explosives inside the fuel pipeline
but realized that “it was not technically feasible.”

Sources said the planning stages of the plot involved surveillance of JFK
airport as well as scouting out US properties in Guyana for possible attacks.

Aviation officials said there is no major threat to air travel related to
this plot since it was caught in the developmental stages.

One law enforcement official said: “[There was] credible intent to commit
violence but it was not operational.” … ..

“It was not technically feasible.”

“… .. it was not operational.”

It's hard to take journalism and reporting seriously when every single person
on cable runs to situations like this crying the sky almost fell, but didn't
because the guys involved were idiots and couldn't pull it off.

No doubt someone will use it against John Edwards. Calling the “global war on terror” a “bumper sticker” slogan has made him quite the target lately. So this latest chicken little non-threat will send Fox “News” into a frenzy.

However, here's a clue. The news conference is being held behind closed doors on the 10th floor somewhere so cameras can't get in. It's highly likely that this was a non event that should never have been broadcast in the first place. Not every yahoo with grandeous plans of bombing planes is worth a “breaking news” headline. At some point law enforcement has to start separating the silly from the serious. Over reaction is as potentially dangerous as no reaction at all.
