Bob Kerrey’s Muddle

Bob Kerrey's Muddle

You'd think the man would get tired of pronouncing things in public which turn
out to be untrue. But today he continues his trend in the Wall Street Journal.
At least he's consistent.

The key question for Congress is whether or not Iraq has become the primary
battleground against the same radical Islamists who declared war on the U.S.
in the 1990s and who have carried out a series of terrorist operations including
9/11. The answer is emphatically “yes.”

Bob
Kerrey's

The Left's Iraq Muddle

Yes, it is central to the fight against Islamic radicalism.

The rest of his op-ed is even worse, as he tries and fails utterly to re-argue
the case for the Iraq war.

However, the real issue is Mr. Kerrey's cluelessness on where the real front
line is on terrorism. It certainly is not Iraq, though clearly we've inspired
terrorists to arm and drop into Iraq. Bush and Maliki's ineptitude is any jihadist's
dream. These guys can't get anything right.

So let me enlighten the former senator. Our real problems lie in Pakistan,
Waziristan and what I call the badlands around Afghanistan. Read Mash's recent post that chronicles the New York Times story this past weekend on how much we're paying Musharraf, and what we're getting in return.

Trying to recraft a case for the Iraq war is one thing, but when you actually
decide to equate Iraq with our problems around Afghanistan and Pakistan what
you're actually proving is that you've been out of the action a long time and
are getting your briefings from someone other than, let's say, Rand
Beers
, a man who actually knows what he's talking about when it comes to terrorism.

BEERS: They didn’t commit enough force in the beginning and if they
really believed the military could make a difference now, they didn’t
commit enough this time either. whack a mole is exactly what we have.
