Bush Vetoes – Democrats Respond updated

VIDEO: Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton

In a display of unfettered defensiveness, Mr. Bush continued his obstinate
walk into the desert quicksands of Iraq.

Major General Paul Eaton slaps him around.

Reid and Pelosi came out afterwards (audio).

“The president wants a blank check. The Congress is not going to give it to him. … There is great difference between us right now.” – Speaker Pelosi

As Maj. Gen. Eaton said, the troops are simply fighting the war. This bill helps put discipline on the ground. Victory, as defined by President Bush, is not possible with this Iraqi government. Eaton also said something I speak about often. He talked about putting “spine” in the state department. The term I use is “muscular diplomacy,” but they both get down to the most important issue we face. Only a political solution will solve Iraq’s problems.

Clinton’s response: Bush “is standing in the way of ending the war in Iraq.”

Obama’s response: Bush has “stubbornly ignored the will of the American people.”

Edwards’ response: “Congress should answer with another withdrawal timetable.”

The fight continues, but gets a lot harder from here on out. But in the end one thing is certain. Iraq is George Bush’s war.
