Why is an OB/GYN in Charge of Walter Reed? –updated below–
\”The problems at Walter Reed appear to be problems of leadership.\” – Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, (MSNBC) Update
1:173:01 p.m., shortly after the resignation of Dr. Harvey, Secretary of the Army was received and accepted.
So, Gen. Weightman, the top guy was fired. His career ended. Some consider
him the
\”fall guy.\” But there\’s a reason everyone is supposedly demoralized
by Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley being placed in charge of Walter Reed again, besides
the fact that he didn\’t do his job the first time around.
I got an email yesterday from cookiejill
who asked a good question. So far I\’ve gotten no answers. I asked the question
yesterday on my radio show too and it remains a good one today.
Why is an OB/GYN put in charge of Walter Reed? … for a second time.
His first tour was with the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Seoul, South Korea,
where he was the Chief of OB/GYN services. He returned to the residency training
program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center and served as Chief, Family
Planning and Counseling Service. He then served as Assistant Chief of the
Department of OB/GYN.He was assigned as the Division Surgeon of the 10th Mountain Division, a
new light infantry division in Fort Drum, N.Y. He then assumed command of
the newly activated 10th Medical Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, serving
concurrently in both assignments. He returned to William Beaumont Army Medical
Center, where he first served as the Assistant Chief, then Chairman of the
Department of OB/GYN.(snip)
He is a board-certified OB/GYN and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists.Among his awards and decorations are the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense
Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (three oak leaf clusters), Bronze
Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two
oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal, the \”A\” professional
designator, the Order of Military Medical Merit and the Expert Field Medical
Badge.
Unless soldiers are coming back with a broken uterus or pregnant, I don\’t
know what Kiley has to offer an amputee or a soldier with PTSD. Is post-partum depression an equivalent. No. Of course, that didn\’t keep
Joe Lieberman from singing his praises. Moral of the story: Don\’t let chickenhawks
like Lieberman take charge of heroes.
Enter Rep. Henry Waxman, my former congressman for years. Waxman
has issued a subpoena for Weightman, who will appear on Monday to testify on Walter Reed.
Pitbull meets the fall guy. This could get interesting.
That was fast. Interesting, indeed. Just after I posted this, MSNBC announed that Dr. Harvey, the Secretary of the Army, has submitted his resignation over the Walter Reed scandal, which has obviously been accepted. I\’ll get you a link when it\’s out.
Bottom line: George W. Bush is AWOL again.
