Lieberman To Deliver Dem Radio Address
What, Zell Miller wasn\’t available?
Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman plans to deliver the Democrats\’ radio response to
President Bush Saturday and urge that the president and Congress \”hold
the Pentagon and Army chain of command accountable for the neglect of our
soldiers at Walter Reed\” Army Medical Center. …
We get to talk about Walter Reed and the troops, along with the catostrophic
failures of Bush and the Republicans, but what does the Democratic Party do?
They give Joe Lieberman the spot, the man who wouldn\’t vote with Democrats on
Iraq unless we blew smoke up Bush\’s butt, with trumpets blaring in the background.
This is what\’s wrong with the leadership in Congress. They just don\’t get it.
You do not reward a renegade on the war with a plum assignment like speaking
to America on the troops. We\’ve got any number of senators who are veterans,
but Lieberman gets the nod?
What\’s wrong with James Webb? No one speaks to working class and middle
America better than Webb, especially when it comes to the troops, as well as
Iraq. He\’s a Democratic populist, veteran and magnificent speaker on our issues,
which includes understanding that George W. Bush doesn\’t deserve our support.
Instead, it\’s let\’s make nice with the chickenhawk. Oh, and what will we get in return? I can\’t wait to hear.
Whoever made this decision does not understand the importance of putting someone who represents all of us on national security in the spotlight, let alone what we face on the fight we\’re in on Iraq.
What else is new?
But between the non debate on Iraq in the Senate, Nevada pairing with Fox \”News,\” and now Lieberman getting a plum assignment talking about the troops, you\’ve got to wonder if someone isn\’t simply trying to send a message. Okay, consider it received and rejected. Because Lieberman talking about the troops, while supposedly representing all Democrats, is just wrong.
“It’s still George Bush’s war,” said Senator Russell D. Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin, “but we run the risk of gaining some ownership of it if we don’t make it absolutely clear that we are the party that wants to get out of there.” Senate Democrats Vow to Confront Bush on Iraq but Are Still Working Out the Details
Et tu, Joe?
