Funny Wingnuts a Flop

As someone who has a lot of performance experience I can tell you, comedy is
dangerous stuff. It\’s not for chickenhawk Republicans. The video is exihibit
A. \”BO\” magazine for Barack Obama? Never mind it\’s a rip off of the old \”Spy\” magazine front cover format. However, catch the studio laughter at the start. Someone needs to tell the screened audience that they can get hurt themselves laughing that loud at things that aren\’t funny. The canned laughter later on is worse.

I actually hoped Surnow\’s show was good, but if this is a sampling they\’re in real trouble. There\’s no bad news about having a wingnut political comedy show. But if the model is Jon Stewart, Surnow needs to understand that he goes after Democrats, too. Oh, and he\’s smart and so is the comedy. Can Republicans even target their own, or do they rubber stamp their comedy, too?

Fox News Channel does not know how to do slashing comical commentary. The channel debuts \”The 1/2 Hour News Hour\” at 10 p.m. Sunday and repeats it at 10 p.m. Feb. 25. This show was meant to be a conservative version of \”The Daily Show.\” It is a botch.

\”The 1/2 Hour News Hour\” does not comment on what is happening; it simply takes swipes at people. These people include Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama and Ed Begley Jr. Other joke topics are the ACLU, Time magazine, children\’s books and global warming. … ..

\”The 1/2 Hour News Hour\” was developed by Joel Surnow, who has given the world many minutes of entertainment through \”24.\” On the basis of the premiere, Surnow should stick to political thrillers. …

Fox News Channel bombs with comedy show

C&L
did a review. Matt Ortega has a post
up, too, on it. Here\’s TRex.

Still, when Rush plays the president, with Ann Coulter playing
his vice president
, you\’ve got to wonder who wrote this stuff. Where\’s Hannity?
I imagine Alan Colmes will play Joe Lieberman at some point. Type casting.

Stay tuned, though I\’ve got a feeling it\’s back to the drawing board for this one.
