Clueless Corporate Hack

Clueless Corporate Hack
Another member of the corporate hack pack has spoken. David Broder doesn\’t
know what he\’s talking about.
One of the losers in the weekend oratorical marathon was retired Gen. Wesley
Clark, who repeatedly invoked the West Point motto of \”Duty, Honor, Country,\”
forgetting that few in this particular audience have much experience with,
or sympathy for, the military. …
It\’s unlikely that anyone in the Democratic Party needs a lecture on \”duty,
honor, country\” from an inside the beltway blatherer like Broder. But of
course, \”in this particular audience\” is his out. He\’s not casting
the whole party as ignorant about these things, just everyone who attended the
DNC winter meeting last week. Got it.
Never mind that he through this line in for good measure about another speaker,
someone \”that not even a deranged blogger could love.\” Check.
I\’m obviously not one of those either.
The problem with Broder\’s language, which I\’m sure he realizes because he\’s
not stupid, is that it harkens back to an age old Vietnam slur against the Democratic
Party. It is something to which I take personal offense, as do my readers and
radio (and podcast) listeners, all of whom not only support the troops when
they are in harm\’s way, but also support them by making sure their mission is
worth their lives and limbs. Mission creep isn\’t one of those and neither is
putting our soldiers in the middle of another country\’s civil war. We also fight
hard and withstand attacks against our own honor by people like Mr. Broder and
others, because it\’s risky to push back against the majority opinion who was once for the war, which
is the opposite of where I\’ve been since all this began, way back in 2002.
Now, I wasn\’t at the DNC winter meeting, the audience which Broder
singles out, but I would have been had I not had a radio show and other professional
responsibilities that kept me away. But those antendees and speakers are part
of a huge movement that represents this entire nation, the vast majority of
whom now want to get out of Iraq at the best possible time we can, which includes
campaigning against escalation. We feel it is because of \”duty, honor,
country\” that we make these sacrifices. Last time I looked Broder has a big fat salary and expenses, none of which we out here fighting the good fight every day enjoy. We do this for \”duty, honor, country\” with little fanfare. I wonder how fast the corporate hack pack would bolt if they had to put up with what we do regarding lack of funds.
I also doubt that Broder knows every audience person\’s experience with the
military, so his generality was meant to attack a far wider group. But to say
the attendees of the DNC meeting don\’t even have any sympathy for the military
belongs with the other fallacious attacks made against the Democratic Party,
right alongside of the swiftboat attacks against John Kerry and the swiftboating
of John Murtha, as well as Patrick Murphy and Joe Sestak. Were these veterans
in \”this particular audience\”? Broder doesn\’t care, because if honestly assessed his libelous attack
was general and far reaching.
When the corporate hack pack speak, we\’re listening. When they swiftboat the
Democratic Party on military and defense issues we\’ll fight back. The offense
is noted. Broder\’s ignorance is, too, and it\’s also one reason their influence has
collapsed.
… However, that said, this is interesting.
