Brit Hume Threatens John McCain

Brit Hume Threatens John McCain –updated–

It started on Fox “News” Sunday. It continues today in the Washington
Post.

Brit Hume threatened John McCain's 2008 presidential bid on Sunday, with William
Kristol backing him up. It was stunning, as one of my radio show listeners “duster”
pointed out in yesterday's radio post. But as promised, I offer the video of Bush's boy Brit threatening John McCain's 2008 presidential bid. It is brazen.

It seems the Washington Post is channeling Fox “News” today, though
as far as John McCain's presidential ambitions, I'm no longer impressed. The
straight talk express went south a long time ago.

Asked for an example, he cited the 2000 debate over public display of the
Confederate battle flag in South Carolina. McCain initially called the flag
“a symbol of racism” but softened his views, leading to accusations
of waffling and pandering.

Nonetheless, a Republican strategist close to the White House said McCain
risks alienating his primary base in the detainee dispute.

“The politics of this for him are pretty dangerous,” said the strategist,
who spoke anonymously to avoid antagonizing the senator. “This is an
issue that's the most important issue to the Republican base overall, and
they're strongly with the president on this.”

The strategist added: “This is a manageable issue today. But I don't
know that it's manageable if Congress leaves without doing anything.”

Stand On Detainees May Pose Risk For 2008 Bid

So the word is out. John McCain has finally bucked Bush, and the Republican
base won't take it, period. Yeah, right, deal to come in a couple of days.

But according to Brit Hume, William Kristol and the stenographers
at the Washington Post; who are evidently taking large chunks of their reporting
straight from the White House party line. John McCain is done.

No wonder the Democrats can't get a word in edgewise with these folks. The
liberal media just isn't what it used to be.

UPDATE (8:33 a.m.): Looks like Brit and Bill are a bit delusional. House is having so much trouble passing what Bush wants on torture that Boehner delayed the vote, with Feckless Frist turning to border issues instead. Uh-oh.

House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, rescheduled a Wednesday vote, claiming the Judiciary Committee needed time to review the bill. A congressional official speaking on condition of anonymity said House leaders were now uncertain they had enough votes for the Bush plan to prevail.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., announced Monday the Senate would turn to a border security measure instead.
