Karl Rove Offers Lieberman Help –updated–

According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President's political guru, Karl
Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the
Oval Office: “The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do.”
George Stephanopoulos:
Can Karl help Joe?
(h/t Matt, MyDD)

Support Ned Lamont.

This cannot be the way Senator
Joe Lieberman
wants to be remembered. A man who once held a position at
the top of the Democratic Party ticket. A man who marched for Civil Rights.
It's time to reach out to Joe Lieberman before it is too late and he makes a
decision he will regret the rest of his life…

Dear Joe,

You've had 18 years of committed service as a proud Democratic Party member
in the United States Senate. We all know this loss is hard for you. We respect
your initial reaction to want to continue the fight. However, we are asking
you to do the right thing and back the choice of Connecticut primary voters
last night. You need to continue to show the integrity you've displayed for
all these years and back Ned Lamont.

There were many issues that caused the Connecticut voters to choose Ned Lamont.
However, the most important issue for people like me, as well as my readers,
even though I'm not a nutmeg state resident, is the course we now find our foreign
policy taking. It goes well beyond Iraq, though the door to our current national
security disaster was broken down in that country.

George W. Bush and the conservatives who run Congress have put us on a war
footing of no return. They're talking about WWIII and regime change as our national
security strategy. The greatest leaders of the Democratic Party never relished
war. John F. Kennedy hated it. But JFK actually fought and almost died in WWII,
so he understood what sending men into battle meant.

But we are not only watching Iraq collapse into civil war, we are watching
a political wildfire spread across the Middle East into Israel, Lebanon and
all points in between, even beyond, with a new arms race that John F. Kennedy would have deplored, denounced and from which he would have distanced himself completely.

Our foreign policy is in shambles under George W. Bush. The voters of Connecticut
realize this all too well, so when Ned Lamont stood up and spoke out against
Bush's policies they rallied to his side.

A strong national security platform and foreign policy requires that the United
States reclaim the platform of leading the world through peace, negotiation
and through serious strength. This policy will always be backed by the greatest
military in the world. Unfortunately, under President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld
our very national security has been threatened. Our military will remains unbroken,
but the practical and technical realities have the U.S. Armed Services stretched
beyond the breaking point. The voters of Connecticut saw this and voted for
a change. That change is the leadership of Ned Lamont.

We urge you as a patriotic American to do what is right. Stand beside Ned Lamont
and the voters of Connecticut to change the direction of this country, especially
where national security is concerned. Our troops are depending on us taking
the reigns from the disastrous course we now find ourselves mired, turning onto
a new path. Your decision is critical to that end.

Mr. Lieberman, stand up and stand beside Ned Lamont. Do it for the soldiers
fighting in Iraq, who so desperately need new leadership. Send a message, sir.
Tell George W. Bush and the conservatives that nothing is more important than
the national security of this great nation. Put yourself second, serve your
nation one more time by supporting Ned Lamont.

Sincerely and with great respect,
All Democrats who are united for a strong America.

UPDATE (1:00 p.m.): More news on the alleged Joe2006 hacking story from Justin Rood at TPM Muckraker.

Importantly, Straretz noted that if Lieberman “hacking” charges prove false, the FBI and federal prosecutors could pursue charges against those who reported them. “If it was fabricated and you could prove intent, there's Title 18, Section 1001, which is providing false statements to an FBI agent. That can be prosecuted at the discretion of the U.S. Attorney's Office.”

UPDATE II (2:05 p.m.): Former General Wesley Clark on Ned Lamont.
