| Why do conservatives hate veterans? |
The Republicans can't govern. Conservatives can't manage national security, with the Bush administration is so desperate they're recruiting neo-nazis for the U.S. military.
The only thing they're good at is launching swiftboat and scare campaigns around election
time. Oh, and selling
their ideas to kids.
Meanwhile, North Korea launches missiles, Iran is playing with plutonium, as
Iraq burns, and the Middle East roils.
But North Korea is the one in the news this week for a very big reason. Bush
and his conservative Congress have done absolutely nothing about them since
the president put them in his infamous “axis of evil.”
Over four years have gone by since then and North Korea has abandoned 6-party talks, they've threatened the Korean peninsula, they've expanded their nuclear capabilities, even though Bush doesn't know it, as well as figured
out how to put missiles on the launch pad. They don't threaten the U.S. yet, but what's
going on threatens the stability of that corner of the world in a big way. Especially
if North Korea decides to sell their technology to a rogue nation or terrorists
in exchange for, let's say, food.
As even former general Colin Powell asserted long ago, President Clinton had
North Korea's nuclear capabilities clamped off for years. Yesterday on Hannity
& Colmes, Republican Jack Kemp even slapped Sean around, though ever so
slightly, when he tried to push the propaganda that Clinton
was to blame for the arming of North Korea. Former general Wesley Clark
would have none of Sean's nonsense, and Clark was actually involved in the whole
thing back in the 90s.
And now Bush suggests a missile
shield is the answer? What he says. Republicans just can't resist throwing away your
money. Meanwhile, our national security hangs out in the breeze. Swell.
As for the latest terrorist scare, the press conference today reminds me of the Ninjas, but we just don't know. Neither does the FBI, by the way. Happy anniversary, London.
John Amato asked the right question on this latest election year scare. Glenn chimes in, too. UPDATE: The New York Times now says “no attack was imminent” but Josh Marshall has the bottom line..
Meanwhile, the conservatives continue to do what they do best: smear decorated
veterans. They were out in full force on Fox today, so I heard. It's not over
yet, especially where Rep. Murtha is concerned.
But if you want a good laugh, go see the General. Lamont's challenger is Mad
as Zell.
