I wanted to post this quickly before I headed off to my final meetings, because
I won't have time between the foreign policy lecture at the
New American Foundation on Winning
the Un-War: A New Strategy for the War on Terrorism, which will take
me right up to my D.C. departure. By the way, if you haven't read Steve Clemons' latest
article on the “war
on terror” you must check it out. It pits George
Soros opposite John McCain.
This morning at the Take Back America conference, Feingold reminded everyone
in the audience that we have over two years to hold Bush accountable. He made it clear that censure
will be alive as long as Russ Feingold is in the Senate. Feingold also made it clear that he was so proud when Harry Reid shut down the Senate, but that the collective Democratic Party spine didn't last through the holidays. It's about keeping The Founders vision alive for America. It's about not handing al Qaeda the biggest victory of all, which would be to change America.
Oh, and one more thing, Feingold didn't use the ridiculous “war on terror” slogan. He talked about fighting al Qaeda and terrorism, which is something on which we all agree. Feingold also made it clear that wiretapping terrorists is a very good thing, but it must include doing it within the law. Not a minor point, I would suggest.
I'd not heard Russ Feingold in person, but today it was clear that he is beloved
for a reason. The man doesn't mince words, which is what Democrats are hungry
to hear. But today, the audience was filled with his fans. I'm sure they
were not disappointed. (Added note: Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn, introduced Feingold today. Didn't want to leave Eli out!)
Feingold agreed that getting out of Iraq by the end of 2006 should be the plan and didn't understand why every Democrat didn't agree. Feingold supports Kerry's resolution on Iraq.
I sat next to AP reporter Frederic J. Frommer, so look for his story to see
his take on it all.
As for Democratic reaction, one New Yorker started talking to me about Al Gore.
I asked her what she thought of an Al Gore – Russ Feingold ticket in 2008. She
just smiled dreamily and told me to blog about it.
The 2006 election may be on the horizon, but 2008 is in its shadow, as the
Democratic Party starts to make plans for taking back America. To do that we're
going to need to hear more John
Kerry and Russ Feingold, with a
lot less Hillary Clinton speak. Hmmm… gets you thinking, doesn't it?
NOTE: Today is Flag Day, so I also want to draw your attention to my blog's banner that appears at the top. It is taken from one of the many pieces of political art that I have done. It's a two story flag mural that hangs in our entry way. It's a good day to give a nod to all artists who do renderings of the Stars and Stripes. The only writing on my mural appears as such: We the People. What more do we need?
