President Bush makes a desperation pr trip to Iraq, and what we get is this crap? I know, I'm getting ahead of myself, so let me back up; mind you, I walked in wanting to like what she was going to say. However, it wasn't to be.
She looked mah-velous. The peach suit was nice. Her make-up flawless.
I went
in wondering if I'd get a hint if she was running for president. Yeah, baby, she's running, let
there be little doubt, though until today I wasn't convinced. But if this reception is any indication she's got a long road's journey into the promised land.
I would expect this reception from the smart set blogosphere, but not from Hillary's peeps, her people, the Democratic “mainstream,” as they are called.
Her words were calculated, some were cutting, and “the crowd” she
railed against are despised. We've got to elect Democrats in November, she said. Well, no kidding.
So, okay, she started off predictable, but the crowd was with her. It was canned,
but well crafted, hitting all the right notes. I couldn't have cared less, been less moved. Even Nancy Pelosi showed more heart, and she's scared to death of public speaking!
Still, the applause came, time and again for Hillary… at first.
“We believe government can empower people to live their own dreams. But
a government that is accountable to the people.” – Senator Hillary Clinton
Accountable? Okay, so what about Iraq?
She did one drive-by reference early on, all I could do was shake my head, as she continued on her policy campaign pabulum. I almost believed she wouldn't address it again. But she did and what she said
made me want to scream. As for the others in the audience, they simply BOOED.
“I do not think it is a smart strategy, either, for the president to
continue with his open-ended commitment, which I think does not put enough
pressure on the new Iraqi government,” said Clinton, before turning to
the anti-war liberals' core beef with her.“Nor do I think it is smart strategy to set a date certain. I do not
agree that that is in the best interests,” said Clinton, prompting loud
booing from some at the gathering.
Jeer? The crowd booed, loudly, flatly and unapologetically.
Senator Hillary Clinton was clueless this could happen. It was amazing.
As an aside, which I will talk about a little later, John Kerry kicked Hillary's
political ass. He even took a well aimed swipe at her, which was primed, priceless and perfectly aimed. It was a beautiful thing, let me tell you.
When Clinton finished her speech, she went over to shake hands. There was a
crowd, but nothing compared to what happened later with Senator John Kerry.
But as Hillary shook hands, I could see her face and jaw, which were tight and
set.
The crowd clearly caught her off guard. The reaction to her pathetic, spineless
rhetoric on Iraq was as if she was telling the people that she, the lofty senator,
knew best. Her comments about Iraq dripping with I know better arrogance.
If Bill Clinton is the height of political savvy and knowing, cunning and calculation,
natural ability and uncanny prescience on how to read an audience. Senator Hillary
Clinton is as tone deaf as a barn yard beast, with less deftness of touch and all the
vocal qualities of a jack ass.
If Senator Hillary Clinton runs for president, keeping the stance she took
today on Iraq, it will foreshadow the biggest fall from political grace since Gary Hart
was caught with what's her name?
When I think of another word for bombed, I'll let you know.
