Rove in ‘Hell’

Rove in “Hell”

UPDATE: Crooks and Liars has the video on Shuster's report.

Rove is now tied for the most
appearances to a grand jury, which would be five, but that's not the worst of it. According to reports on MSNBC, people around Rove think he's in real jeopardy. Tied with Betty Curry for most grand jury appearances is one thing, but at least she wasn't “Official A,” nor was she a “subject.” But talk
about must see TV. It's become the motto for any time David Shuster does an
update on the Karl Rove saga. Only today, he delivered more than we could have
hoped. Shuster went on to say that in looking at Fitzgerald's prior cases, “Official A” got indicted 100% of the time.

We've been hearing that Karl Rove is not worried, no sweat, the spin goes. For instance, today on “Hardball,” Norah O'Donnell said that Rove
was at a party last night showing no angst at all, forwarding the talking point like a good little girl. However, the former special prosecutor, Sol Weisenberg, being interviewed by O'Donnell, had a semi-sneer on his face, as
if to say, you dumb broad. How is he supposed to act? Weisenberg wasn't buying it, though he stayed neutral, commenting only on the obvious. I guess Ms. Norah expected
to hear stories about Karl pouting over his cocktail weenies and Chardonnay.

But Raw
Story
has now learned that an upcoming Shuster report on Keith Olbermann's
“Coutdown” may reveal more, including that Rove's lawyers compared his testimony
to “hell.” That's right, hell, as well as grueling. Three and one-half hours in front of
a grand jury can't be fun, but when it's your fifth appearance it's not only
hell, but hotter than hell.

Here's part of the transcript, but read the rest. It's short and worth it.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TIME LAPSE FROM THE NOVAK TIP TO THE NEW ROVE TESTIMONY…
WAS 7 MONTHS.

AND FROM THE DATE WHEN PROSECUTOR PATRICK FITZGERALD FIRST ORDERED MATT COOPER
TO TESTIFY TO WHEN ROVE CHANGED HIS TESTIMONY WAS JUST DAYS.

Fredericksen: “Mr. Fitzgerald is a straight shooter, I have no doubt
in my mind he has told them very clearly why he has Rove in there. It's because
he wants to determine whether Mr. Rove was telling the truth when he first
appeared before the grand jury.”

BY ALL ACCOUNTS, VOLUNTEERING TO TESTIFY TO A GRAND JURY IS A RISKY PROPOSITION…
LAWYERS SAY IT IS USUALLY DONE WHEN THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THAT MAY STOP AN
INDICTMENT. AND THE SIGNS FOR ROVE HAVE BEEN OMINOUS FOR MONTHS. IN THE LIBBY
INDICTMENT, ROVE WAS REFERRED TO AS “OFFICIAL A.” THAT'S A DESIGNATION
PROSECUTORS ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE WHEN THEY ARE REVEALING PERJORATIVE INFORMATION
ABOUT A PERSON NOT YET CHARGED.

Fredericksen: “When your client is identified in that manner, it's a
cause of great concern.”

THAT'S BECAUSE PROSECUTORS ALMOST ALWAYS END UP INDICTING SOMEBODY IDENTIFIED
AS OFFICIAL A. AND IN LOOKING THROUGH THE RECORD OF PATRICK FITZGERALD, HIS
OFFICE HAS EVENTUALLY INDICTED OFFICIAL A IN EVERY CASE.
