About Iran…
![]() |
… … The point insufficiently pressed
is this: Why does the United States need to shoulder the critical burden
here? If Iran gets the bomb, probably a new set of strategic relationships
would arise. Saudi Arabia and Egypt would clamor for the bomb, perhaps also
Turkey. Regional internecine pressures would mount hugely. What it comes down
to is that the United States would be critically affected, but other nations
would be more directly affected, and the question repeats itself: Why do they
not take on the responsibility of intervening in Iran? … HITTING
IRAN, by William F. Buckley, Jr.
George W. Bush has been reduced to a presidential gelding.
We now learn that Operation Swarmer was
a ruse. It wasn't the military's fault, but the p.r. guys and the nitwit
talking heads that don't know a gun from a water hose.
George W. Bush is so lost, he's not only planning to bug out of
Iraq before the mid-term elections. He's passing the presidential baton to a
blue ribbon panel so they can figure out how to get us out of Iraq.
Our president has simply given up and is getting ready to bug out. It's just a matter of how.
Ten prominent Americans, including former
Secretary of State James A. Baker III, are forming a bipartisan group to assess
the Bush administration's policies in Iraq and political and economic developments
in the troubled country. The study was requested by Congress and will be announced
Wednesday on Capitol Hill by Baker and Lee H. Hamilton, director of the Woodrow
Wilson International Center for Scholars, vice chairman of the Sept. 11 commission
and a former member of Congress from Indiana, as providing a fresh look at
Iraq.(snip)
The congressionally-financed United States Institute
of Peace and three private think tanks are supporting the inquiry. Four working
groups will be assigned to measure the strategic situation in Iraq, formation
of a government in Baghdad, political development and the Iraqi economy.

But will George W. Bush ever be held responsible for any of his
incompetence?
Accountable, shmountable, these guys aren't even making an effort
any more. In fact, even if Democrats could get censure passed, I'm not sure it
will phase Bush and his rubber stampers. They're just too far gone. Which brings me to something I discussed
that happened earlier this week.
We all know that George W. Bush has no problem uttering irrelevant and often false neocon notions that have no relation to the truth.
But when George's talk about Iran went down at the hands of
General Pace, the general slapping the boss' latest fictional Iraqi war yarn down as if it had come straight from a right-wing think tank, something about it just seemed odder than usual. Why would Bush and Rumsfeld, even Deadeye, go so far out on a limb
if they thought Pace would knock down their Iranian tall tales?
They thought they could get away with it again. It's worked so
far, so what the hell, right? Well, via reader “dm,” I received some very interesting information that helped with the search I had begun.
Of course, for Bush and Rummy to make their case on the Iran IED tale they
needed help from the media. The good news is that our intelligence is so bad there's a fair amount of plausible deniability on just about anything uttered. It's also nice to grab a usually competent guy with a decent reputation to carry your water by offering him information that no one can source. If it comes from a top White House official why not run with it, right? But in the case of Iran providing IEDs, Bush and his boys didn't even try to find out the truth. Unfortunately, neither did Brian Ross it appears. Doesn't anyone Google anymore?
Now, I like Brian Ross. He was the only one all over Delay's Marianas'
connection and the horrific treatment of the young women who live on those islands.
“You represent everything that is
good about what we are trying to do in America,” DeLay said at the time
to his audience, which included Saipan officials and factory owners. DeLay's
Lavish Island Getaway
As Ross reported for ABC, the Marianas Islands that Delay trumpeted
are a steaming pit of hell where forced
abortions and sweatshops rule the lives of women.
Brian Ross also reported on “the
Spider Cell” on Charlie Rose. I can say without much doubt that no
one else covered his report. It was very interesting and worth a mention, because
we still haven't caught Osama, which many of us believe is at least worth the
time to get it done. Symbolism is everything.
Unfortunately, as far as the Iran providing Iraq with IEDs, one
of Ross' “exclusive” reports turned south, leaving everyone with pie
on their faces. Ross' “exclusive” was actually old.
No, not just old, but stinky sweat sock in a gym bag left in the trunk of
your car in the desert heat old. We're talking OLD,
people.
Via newshog,
who has been all over this story, the IEDs that are maiming our soldiers one
limb at a time, through multiple tours of duty, compliments of Rummy and George,
are using a British design. Somehow, through some lame ass, half witted bungling
that rivals the rubber stamp Republican Party under George W. Bush, British intelligence
inadvertently gave the IRA these very deadly IEDs, which were then shared with
fellow terrorists friendly with the IRA. D'oh!
Circa 16 October 2005…
Eight British soldiers killed during ambushes
in Iraq were the victims of a highly sophisticated bomb first used by the
IRA, The Independent on Sunday can reveal. The soldiers, who were targeted by insurgents as they
travelled through the country, died after being attacked with bombs triggered
by infra-red beams. The bombs were developed by the IRA using technology passed
on by the security services in a botched “sting” operation more
than a decade ago.

This looks like a really bad case of oblivious suckering,
with a dose of egotistical reportorial malfeasance on the side for Ross.
Which brings us back to the pure, dripping, condescending, disrespectful
deceit of President Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Or does anyone
believe they didn't know what they were saying when they both trotted out the
year-old b.s. on Iran IEDs killing soldiers?
We know Iran has people inside the Iraqi government, which is
bad enough. But just like Operation
Overblown, we don't have near enough facts or intelligence from either country
to start offering up pure fiction to beat us all into a let's get Iran
frenzy, which was started by Deadeye,
continued in a speech this week by Bush, with Rummy offering the IEDs from Iran
nonsense, too, if only to say it's possible.
It took a simple question at a Pentagon briefing to finally get
the truth.
… … President George W. Bush said
on Monday components from Iran were being used in powerful roadside bombs
used in Iraq, and Rumsfeld said last week that Iranian Revolutionary Guard
personnel had been inside Iraq to stir up trouble.Asked whether the United States has proof that Iran's
government was behind these developments, Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, chairman
of the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon briefing, “I
do not, sir.” … …
U.S.
general says no proof Iran behind Iraq arms
So, quit whipping everyone up about Iran, Mr. President, Rummy,
Dick. It's just your latest fantasy of democracy fulfillment. Because
one preemptive invasion without the commensurate threat
from that nation to match the action is enough to last a lifetime.
