Republican Ed Rogers Calls Feingold “Thoughtful”

“… Russ Feingold is thoughtful
opposition. He voted against (the war in Iraq). He's been principled about the
whole thing. He's been matter of fact. I don't have any problem with his position.
… He's consistent and thoughtful.”
- Ed Rogers, Republican
strategist (source: “Hardball”)

Rogers was talking about Feingold's position on Iraq, but the broader point about his politics seems clear.

Senator Lieberman seems to be moving backwards on Feingold's censure resolution,
though he still wants to bring Bush's illegal spying within the law.

“I'd prefer to see us solve the problem,” was
what Lieberman told reporters yesterday. Today, according to The Hill, Lieberman is also saying “that out of respect for Feingold he would
'take a look' at a resolution that he referred to as 'a very unusual measure.'”
Has spineless Joe had a change of heart? (Or maybe it's Ted Lamont.)

Senator Reid said, “I commend Senator
Feingold for bringing this to the attention of the American people.”
With Senator Biden not weighing in, talking about everyone's frustrations with President Bush, and wanting to read the resolution before commenting. Everyone is circling to see what happens next.

Democrats, while distancing themselves from Mr. Feingold's
assertion that the president “plainly broke the law” in approving
surveillance without warrants, said his proposal merited more consideration
than a hasty vote.

“To try to limit debate on this most important
matter that Senator Feingold is going to put before the Senate is not appropriate,”
said Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the minority leader.

Democrats
Beat Quick Retreat on Call to Censure President

Other Democrats are rumored to be raising
the roof over Russ
.

But rest assured, the censure motion is just getting started.
Because, as I said this morning, if Donna
Brazile
is on board it's hit a nerve. Chris Bowers says it's time
to put a serious censure
poll in the field
.

Oh, but hear ye!, hear ye!, Howdy
Frist has a plan
. Wake me up when that one's over.
