Senator Harry Reid's Office is Tallying –updated–
![]() |
I just talked to Senator Harry Reid's office. They're in a great mood, not
making any statements, but they are tallying the vote.
What this means is simple. The Democratic leader is waiting to see how passionate
every one is about Senator Feingold's censure proposal. It's that simple. They
want to hear from us, all of us.
Get on the phone. Call
Senator Reid's office. Make sure you get to speak to a staffer so they can
tally the vote.
Your call matters, because they're marking down what we think. Send an email
to friends, family, whomever you think cares about holding President Bush accountable.
It doesn't take very long and it can make a difference.
When you've done that don't forget to thank Senator Russ Feingold for showing
the American public what a leader looks like. It's been a while since we've
seen one.
UPDATE: Just called Senator John Ensign's (R-Nevada) office
and spoke with a woman named Kathy, who answered the phone. No one else was
available to talk. At first, she was going to offer me a snail mail response.
In fact, she sounded a bit surprised that I was even calling, but took my name,
email, phone. When I said that I'd spoken to Senator Reid's office and that
they were tallying opinions from the American people, she didn't seem to know what to do. I then asked if Ensign's
office was doing anything similar. She stuttered a moment, saying she'd like
to know my opinion. I simply said that it was about holding the president accountable
and that I hoped Senator Ensign would agree that Congress needs to be more engaged
in oversight. She said someone always responds to these types of calls. Frankly,
that's not true. Whenever I call Senator Ensign's office I only get snail mail
responses. They stiff me on every call I've made. From the response of Kathy
at Ensign's office, I'd say they're not hearing a word from Republicans. Of
course, I'm sure you're not surprised, but in the end this isn't a partisan
issue. No president is above the law or beyond congressional oversight. However,
it simply further proves the rubber stamp Republicans are not going to be any
help in holding President Bush accountable. However, that must not stop us,
so get on the phone, send a fax,
email your senator.
