The President Flees the Country!
Rep. Peter King of New York, chairman of
the House Homeland Security Committee, said officials from the Homeland Security
and Treasury departments told him weeks ago that their 30-day review of the
deal did not look into the question of links between DP World and al Qaeda.
King said the officials told him after he asked about investigation into possible
terrorist ties: “Congressman, you don't understand, we don't conduct
a thorough investigation. We just ask the intel director if there is anything
on file, and he said no.” “There was no real investigation
conducted during the 30-day period,” King, who has been a vocal
critic of the deal, told CNN. “I can't emphasize this enough(.)” King's
comments appear to contradict testimony by administration officials before Congress
this week that a through review of any terrorism ties had occurred during the
initial review of the deal. Lawmaker:
Port deal never probed for terror ties
I'm starting to feel like I'm writing for The Onion. It's getting
down right surreal around here. And it's not just the Dubai port deal.
Between Bush fleeing the country today, then plopping himself
down in Poppyland, otherwise known as the United States Republic of Heroin,
you just don't know where to begin to explain the abject collapse of Bush's
presidency. We need another word for incompetent, or failed, or flailing, or…
pick a word, will you, because I've run out of negatives.
However, the new revelations that Bush knew all along that Katrina
was going to be a killer is staggering. As one of my long time readers Joe
Beets said, the “video makes Brownie look GOOD.” We've
now got the Commander In Chief Catastrophe Video, the Katrina edition. Put it
together with the video we put up on this blog a loooong time ago,
from “9/11 to Iraq,” and you've got yourself a two-volume set, with years to go.
Others warned about Katrina, too, including an Indy newsweekly
that featured an article by a 16-year FEMA veteran, Jon Elliston.
In case Congress hasn't gotten the message,
former FEMA director James Lee Witt recently restated it in strong terms.
“I am extremely concerned that the ability of our nation to prepare for
and respond to disasters has been sharply eroded,” he testified at a
March 24, 2004, hearing on Capitol Hill. “I hear from emergency managers,
local and state leaders, and first responders nearly every day that the FEMA
they knew and worked well with has now disappeared. In fact one state emergency
manager told me, 'It is like a stake has been driven into the heart of emergency
management.'” Disaster
in the Making
But if President Bush isn't going to listen to a personal presidential
hurricane briefing, he certainly isn't going to listen to Mr. Elliston.
If I were Bush, I'd stay “over there.” Because there
is absolutely no place to hide “over here” any more. Not even his
own party will claim him after they get a good look at the proof of his propaganda.
Trent Lott is liable to strangle him at this point. Can we get Anderson Cooper
to interview him? That would be pay per view, especially if we could get Mary
Landrieu as the opener.
But to have to digest that Terror Guy doesn't really exist, except
in their political fantasies, will send the likes of Scott McClellan to his
mother's independent campaign down in Texas.
Oh, and let's not forget who decided to walk in lock step with
President Bush lately, either, including on the Dubai port deal. Calling Senator
Suck Up… er… McCain, oh, Jo-ooohn, what do you have to say for
the boss now, big boy?
