Mary Matalin, Stop Shoveling
“The vice president was concerned,”
said Mary Matalin, a Cheney adviser who spoke with him yesterday morning. “He
felt badly, obviously. On the other hand, he was not careless or incautious
or violate any of the [rules]. He didn't do anything he wasn't supposed to do.”
in Intensive Care With Upper-Body Wounds
|Dick Cheney has proven this statement forevermore. But what will the NRA say about it? Accidents happen, but the shooter is the one at fault. Stay tuned…|
Calling the NRA. I'm serious, I'm calling on the NRA to stand
up and tell the truth, because anything less and they should be hit with both
barrels, rhetorically speaking, that is.
The birds got off lucky. Dick Cheney was careless and somebody was hurt bad enough to land
in intensive care.
But why should we care what Mary Matalin says about a hunting
accident? Is she a hunter? Is James Carville? Does she even know a hunter, besides
Paul Begala? Because even then I'd bet you money Begala would say that accidents
happen. However, when you shoot someone in your hunting party it is your
fault, period, end of story.
Dick Cheney was not only careless, but incautious and violated
every hunting rule I've ever been told about. To top it off, he shot somebody,
which isn't supposed to happen. Surely Mary Matalin gets that much or does she
really believe if she offers her personal pearls of ignorance everyone will
just move on without a word? When I read Mary Matalin's comment it seemed obvious
the White House thinks they're going to get away with this lie too. Hey, what's
one more, right?
So, one more time, with feeling just for Mary. First they held
the story for 24 hours.
Next they sent a Bush
pioneer out who doesn't know the difference between a 28 gauge and a 12
gauge shotgun. Or at the very least, helped in
leaking disseminating the information about the shooting slowly. She then blathers on about a hunter having to announce he is
coming up because it's “protocol.” The Bush pioneer then says the
guy in intensive care got “peppered” with pellets. Oh, and by the
way, the guy in ICU is to blame.
It annoys the hell out of me to read about Mary Matalin issuing
forth, decreeing that Dick “was not careless or incautious” blah-blah-blah,
when she truly hasn't a clue what she's talking about.
The only organization that can set Mary Matalin straight is the
NRA. But are they too in the bag for Bush to have the balls to do it? It's their
job, after all. If they don't come out and denounce Cheney's reckless hunting
behavior the NRA will lose all the credibility it has left. It's a defining
moment that will say whether they truly care about what is supposed to be one
of their signature issues, hunter safety, or if they're just another lobbying
group in it for the money.
We don't belong to the NRA. I'm reserving judgment. Let's wait and see what happens.
