Bush Screws Veterans Yet Again
Every reader I treasure, but when I get an email from a veteran
it means something special, which I'm sure everyone can appreciate. I'd like
to share one with you now.

Dear Ms Marsh: Appreciate your insight
on who voted for or against which wasteful weapons scam. The MX missiles were
decomissioned in Wyoming in Oct of 2005. THE MX was filled with vast program
fraud. Some say it was a total waste. It did not become fully operational
, until about the time the Berlin wall came down. What is most despicable
is ZELL Miller going into his insane demonic rant “about spit balls”
during the 2004 elections. What he did not reveal he is a consultant and on
the dole of a big law firm that files vast millions in claims against the
USA government. National defense is not enhanced by vast fraud, waste and
abuse. It undermines national defense. Zell Miller seemed to want to appeal
to the mentally ill in America, to not deal with issues. I luv your web site

This is one of the columns on weaponry
to which he was referring, posted before I went to blogging.
It's a constant theme around here. Republicans talking about being
pro-military and pro-troops, when their actions say otherwise. Republicans talking
about Democrats wanting to cut programs, which are actually wasteful, when even
Deadeye or Daddy Bush wanted to cut the same or similar weapons programs, too.
But one thing Democrats never do is propose permanent tax cuts
for the top 1%, while gutting VA health care to prop up an anti military policy.
At least tens of thousands of veterans
with non-critical medical issues could suffer delayed or even denied care in
coming years to enable President Bush to meet his promise of cutting the deficit
in half — if the White House is serious about its proposed budget. …
In fact, the proposed cuts are so draconian that it seems to some that the White
House is simply making them up to make its long-term deficit figures look better.
More realistic numbers, however, would raise doubts as to whether Bush can keep
his promise to wrestle the deficit under control by the time he leaves office.
“Either the administration is proposing gutting VA health care
over the next five years or it is not serious about its own budget,”
said Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas, top Democrat on the panel overseeing the VA's
budget. “If the proposals aren't serious, then that would undermine the
administration's argument that they intend to reduce the deficit in half over
the next several years.” Veterans

No post war plan for peace, not to mention going to war on a “mushroom
cloud” whopper in the first place.
Not having armored Humvees or armor for soldiers, killing, wounding or maiming more military and Marines than would have been needed had Bush and Rummy planned or cared, totaling 32,000+ to date.
Not having a plan that included knowing how to get out of Iraq
once we toppled Saddam.
The back-door draft that goes on and on.
Families paying for their own armor, then not being reimbursed,
finally shaming Rummy into covering their costs.
Divorce rates and broken homes in the service skyrocketing because of extended
tours.
A broken Army and Marines because of extended tours.
Lack of supplies and armaments because of a never ending insurgency that brings an occupation without end.
National Guard that is ill equipped because armament is left in
Iraq, as we witnessed after Katrina. Now the governors have written a letter
to President Bush complaining of yet another broken link in our U.S. Armed Forces,
the Guard.
Governors were united in their opposition
to what they regard as cuts in Guard funding in Bush's fiscal 2007 budget as
well as fears that the Pentagon has been slow to replace equipment that has
been shipped to Iraq with state Guard units. Early this month, all 50 governors
signed a letter opposing the new budget and calling on Defense Department officials
to reequip returning units as quickly as possible.

Maybe if more of the Republicans
in the Bush administration had served they'd understand.
Over one-quarter of a million veterans are locked out of the VA
system, because they either didn't go to combat or came back without injuries
to make more than the average wage. The message is clear. Get wounded or lose
a limb and America is grateful for your service, but if you come back healthy
and alive, or serve in other ways, don't come knocking on our door.
A corporation could never get away with such blatant worker mistreatment. If you do the work you get the coverage. Certainly our veterans deserve that much. Or is a fat cat's tax cut more important? To Bush it is.
If you serve in the U.S. military, you should be able to pay into
the VA health system.
Republicans think that permanent tax cuts are more important.
And if you think I'm willing to raise taxes on the top 1% to provide our veterans
with health care they have earned you'd be right. I'll argue that tax hike any day.
The reason all this is happening to vets is because Bush promised
to cut the deficit in half. So, in order to make it look like he did just that,
he's making up numbers that a second grader could figure out don't make any sense and don't add up. Of course,
he won't have to worry about it, because when the bill comes due for our veterans,
Bush won't be in office any longer. His successor will have to deal with the
rancor and ill will directed at the federal government, the VA and whomever
takes Bush's place. If it's a Democrat, look out. Even though Bush set this
all in motion, a liberal will have to face the mess, not to mention take the blame.
That's how it's always been. Republicans break the budget, and
Democrats come in a fix the mess. But in this case, the mess will also have
behind it the furor of the U.S. military, which won't get immediate services
unless we stop this now.
Does Bush plan to “gut VA health care” over the next
five years? Because we all know he's never been serious about his own budget.
Congress needs to find out and soon. Our troops and the American people need
to know.
That said, this is just another way George W. Bush acts like a
commander in chief to the troops' face, while stabbing them in the back on an
issue they desperately need. What Bush and his administration have done to our
troops on the Republican watch is a disgrace. Why they get credit for being
“pro military” is beyond me, because it's nothing more than pure myth.
