The True Talent of Terror Guy and Deadeye

It may not seem like much, but it's Joe's
worst
approval rating since May. That said, he's still at 59% approval,
39% disapproval, which I saw on DailyKos.
But again, he's dropping. Four points isn't anything to be happy about this
far out, because if he keeps it up he'll actually be lower than Deadeye before it's
all over. Hey, a gal can dream.

BEAT JOE.
Because you are the company you keep.

When my husband heard that Joe had dropped, well, I can't possibly print what
he said. Then came his tirade against John McCain. That's been a big source
of disappointment for my former hard core Republican husband. It's hilarious
to hear him rant about these two men in particular. Let's just say their spinelessness
makes him spew invectives like an old time gangster. I'll just leave it at that.

Ned Lamont
is running against Joe Lieberman. It's a long shot, but it's worth everything
we've got.

Jane
rips Joe, NARAL and Planned Parenthood a deserved new one tonight. Good for
her.

As for me, I
never was a fan of NARAL
, so them not showing up during the Alito fight
wasn't exactly a shocker. But I think those two groups backing Lamont over Lieberman
is a longer shot than Lamont winning this thing outright. That gives you an
idea of the lack of respect I have for both organizations. But Jane's point that
there are no pro choice Republicans hits something with me. It shows
how women vote.

It's like the issue of the Supreme Court taking up “partial-birth abortion.”
We've known this was coming for a long time. I remember back in 2000, going
on radio show after show, doing interviews talking about Al Gore and what a
conservative George W. Bush was when it came to women's privacy issues. Nobody
believed we'd ever get to where this imbecile actually appointed two Supreme
Court judges and ruled this country for two terms. In the interim, young single
women, as well as married, made a choice to put privacy second to some imagined fear
that some gun toting, reckless, feckless fat man and his toady dreamed up out
of scattered remnants of raw intelligence.

It's the age old argument, actually. Think about it. Men putting the fear of
evil into women, threatening that just outside the back door is danger, so we'll
huddle a little closer. That's the real talent of Terror Guy and Deadeye. Taking
modern women's freedoms and turning them to worthless dust, pushing the boogie
man terrorist man will get us, so we'll make certain they are the ones on watch.
Men have been trying to scare women into being afraid and trusting them to take
care of us for centuries. All Karl had to do was keep the fear alive and growing and that is exactly what he did.

Never fear, Terror Guy and Deadeye are here.

Then, while we huddled in our kitchen, they made away with our privacy. Nice
trade. Oh, but at least we'll all be safe.

So women in their comfortable homes, or with their nice jobs and single lives were
satisfied. They bought their birth control pills, saw the gyno, carried condoms,
never giving a thought to what happens on certain Tuesdays in certain Novembers
every few years or so. Vote? Pe-shaw, I just don't have time. Or better
yet, Roe will never be overturned. Even I wasn't convinced, but I kept on working
just in case. The voice in my ear never left.

Just wait until women have to start traveling across state lines again.
I still remember it well.

But really, it's so like we women of the West to worry about rights once they're
almost gone. Of course, women like Jane, Georgia10, even you, may have always
understood what the fight was about. That's why you're online reading, putting
in time, writing your emails. But in the 2000 election cycle, 20 million single
women
didn't even get off their ass to vote.

Whenever I trot out a post or talk about “It's all the woman's fault,” a signature subject of mine, I always get email comments taking me to task. But if we lose Roe, nobody else
can be blamed. In recent years, we've always had the numbers to elect choice
candidates, always. We just didn't take the time to do it or think
that it mattered until it was too late. By “we,” this time I mean all of us, every progressive; women and the men who love us.

Sure, many lawyers think Roe v. Wade is bad law. However, most of these same
lawyers also believe that a woman has a right to personal domain over her own
body. Modern men can't imagine the state dictating to a woman what she will
do with her body. But still, here we are. Terror Guy and Deadeye are in power,
they've scared the populace into keeping them there and there's not much we
can do about the outcome but pray.

Jane's right. There are no pro choice Republicans, because choice for a woman
should never be in doubt. Barry Goldwater came to that realization late in life.
It came to him like an epiphany from the heavens.

Meanwhile, Terror Guy and Deadeye keep their fright watch, making sure we all
know there is evil among us. There certainly is. It comes in the guise of men
who think they know what God wants and the freedoms a woman is meant to claim as her own.

Privacy is a woman's right, as it is a man's. However, so are the consequences
of our actions. We have to live with them. This also includes the inaction of
millions and millions of women who ignored the right women of history died to
deliver to us. So if we lose at the Supreme Court level, we really have no one
to blame but ourselves.

We bought into Terror Guy and Deadeye's yarn that being safe was better than being free.
