Alito, Harry Reid, the Democrats and a Guy Named Ted
All but one of the Senate’s majority
Republicans voted for his confirmation, while all but four of the Democrats
voted against Alito. That is the smallest number of senators in the party
opposing a president to support a Supreme Court justice in modern history.
Chief Justice John Roberts got 22 Democratic votes last year, and Justice Clarence
Thomas — who was confirmed in 1991 on a 52-48 vote — got 11 Democratic
votes.
Alito Confirmed 58 to
42
Lieberman and Landrieu stuck with Harry and the Democrats, Ben Nelson, Nebraska;
Kent Conrad, North Dakota; Tim Johnson, South Dakota; Robert Byrd, West Virginia,
did not.
But it wouldn't be right if we didn't take a moment to comment on Michelle
Lock Up The
Japs Malkin. Her “Kennedy Unhinged” post is creating quite
a fire around which the wingnuts are gathering. I'd tell you to go over and post
a comment but she doesn't allow them. Malkin is from the Deborah Howell school of blogging. These ladies just don't understand the web or what freedom of speech means. Ms. Malkin prefers to spew venom down from on high without
having to hear back from the masses. That would be just too, hmmm…. what's
the word? Oh yeah, democratic.
As for Senator Ted Kennedy, he's done more for this country and the people,
especially the elderly and those who aren't rich, than Malkin and Ken doll Sean,
with el Rushbo thrown in even though he's so yesterday's news, combined. Kennedy even makes less money than all of them, having given his life to public service, trust fund be damned. What
Senator Kennedy showed on the floor of the senate yesterday was a tour de force
performance that warmed my heart and soul. But then wingnut Republicans like
Malkin & Co. wouldn't understand that because they're all too buttoned down,
tied up and shut off from their souls.
Senator Harry Reid held the Democrats together, John Kerry stood up and fought, while giving Judge Alito the
fewest votes for an associate justice in modern history. Well done. Message
sent.
