ABRAMOFF: Another Day, Another Plea Deal

“The publicly released court
documents, followed by the Justice Department's news conference about the case,
were designed as a “shot across the bow” to other potential suspects
in the inquiry, a person involved said.
With
most cases, the plea is the end, but with Abramoff, the plea is just the beginning,”
said an F.B.I. official who spoke on condition of anonymity, adding, “This
one has legs.”

Lobbyist
Pleads Guilty in Fla.; 2nd Plea in 2 Days

The New York Times offers some interesting new tidbits in the
tremendous case against head GOP sleaze, Jack Abramoff, who pleaded
guilty today
on 2 felony charges of conspiracy and fraud, while 4 others
charges were dropped.

Though both defendants in the SunCruz
case have now pleaded guilty, federal prosecutors described the case as ongoing
and said there could eventually be more defendants.

“Stay tuned,” said Lawrence D. LaVecchio,
an assistant United States attorney.

What a tease that Larry is, huh? By the time the
SunCruz case
is done picking defendants it's going to look like a
mob rogues gallery of goons
.

Yesterday, Abramoff (gladly) accepted 10 years in jail in exchange for squealing
on fellow scumbags, and will pay $26+ million in taxes, plus restitution to
his bilked clients.

Oh, but Jack says he's broke. Yeah, talk to Ken Lay, pal. We're all broken
up.

We haven't talked about others yet, so let's get started. “Staffer A”
is former Delay boy, Tony C. Rudy, now a Republican lobbyist, who evidently got his wife involved
too. Uh-oh. Jack paid Lisa Rudy $50 grand through a charity to get her husband to
agree to “perform a series of official acts,” the Times explains,
taking it from the plea deal. “Representative No. 1″ is Ney, we know.
Mr. Ney's former chief of staff, Neil Volz, is “Staffer B.”

Two Bush administration officials involved are Safavian, who was indicted recently,
with Tim Flanigan actually an almost-Bush official, because he had to withdraw
his name from nomination for the #2 post at Justice, when his ties with Black
Jack were discovered.

“Stay tuned” is right.
